BLURB:
Being in love with your dad’s best friend is a recipe for loneliness.
Trust me, I know.
But I can’t help it. How can I not fall for someone as sweet and caring and attractive as John? Especially after he comes and fixes a leaking pipe in my basement. No questions asked. Just shows up, flashes his knee-weakening smile, and leaves.
Afterward, I notice John watching me with heat in his eyes sometimes. John, who’s only ever dated women, can’t seem to figure out he isn’t supposed to stare at certain parts of my very male body.
I know my dad won’t like it if he finds out, but we’re both adults. If there’s a chance I can have something real with John, I have to go for it.
Right?
Laying Pipe is a low-angst, contemporary romance full of heat, laughs, and a guaranteed HEA.
REVIEW:
This was a surprising read I have to say. This is a different side of author Kiki Clark and I liked it a lot.
As the blurb says this is a low angst contemporary novel. There is romance, sweetness, sexiness and family issues…plus a whole lot of love.
We meet Lucas. who is just an amazingly sweet guy, and he’s full of joy and enthusiasm. Then we have John, who Lucas has knows almost his whole life as he is his dad’s best friend.
The thing is Lucas has been in love with John for ages but John was married to a woman and only ever dated woman so no chance you would say right?
Well things change when John starts seeing Lucas in a slightly different way after helping him out with a plumbing issue.
Because they are pretty familiar with each other, having known each other for years, things progress pretty quickly when both give in to their mutual attraction. Like when John notices that certain body parts of Lucas are really appealing.
There are a few issues for me, I have to admit to that. For me it went a little too fast and especially working up towards the end. And the anti-climatic ending in regards to the issues mentioned in the blurb about Lucas’s dad left me kind of feeling a bit off.
Despite the little fun in regards of the title I would have preferred something different. The kind of flat title definitely paled in comparison to the beautiful cover, and I definitely feel it doesn’t do justice to this story. Of course that is likely to be just a personal opinion.
I absolutely got completely involved with both men and also the side characters especially Kevin and Hank. There is a story there right??! The conclusion to me felt a bit off.
Let’s make sure to not forget the pets! I loved them and the interaction with them. Lucas is so passionate about his job and his animals.
The very sweet and loving ending you could call it an epilogue I guess leaves you with a warm and swoony feeling.
So if you don’t mind a little age gap and love a sweet, sexy contemporary story, you should definitely pick this one up.
Me, I am seriously hoping that Miss Clark continues this one with stories of the people mentioned here. I am very excited to read those 🙂
