BLURB:
The Alphas think they own everything. Including people. Well, I’m here to say they don’t own me, and I will never let one of those bastards touch me again.
The frenzy of their Burn cannot be trusted. I know from experience. My first time with an Alpha nearly ended in my death. And because of the laws which favor Alpha rights, and place a large number of unbonded, adult Omegas on chattel farms, my abuser can never be tried for his crimes against me.
Omegas are being hurt. Omegas are dying.
All Alphas are violent. Or so I believe. Until I meet Orion.
Ori is everything a guy could want in a mate. Six foot three. Beautiful brown wavy hair. Bright, dark eyes. Muscles like chiseled marble. He even says “please” and “thank you” at all the right times. He’s got it all, except he’s an Alpha.
Though he has given me a room in his home free of charge, and has signed fake paperwork saying we are bonded so I don’t have to answer my attacker’s claim, can I trust him?
But now I’m in danger. If I don’t take a real mate, my life as I know it will be over. Can I believe in the goodness of Ori? Can I learn to love again?
A non-shifter, fake mate, Alpha/Omega love story. Rescue. First time. Omegaverse. Mpreg. Healing from sexual trauma. (All books in The Omega Misfits series are standalone reads and can be read in any order.)
REVIEW:
Trigger warnings: rape, abuse, beating, attempted murder, wanting to do it again
Everyone at the chattel farm for omegas, known as Zilly’s, had an air of excitement around it. The older omegas who were of age, were now getting to experience firsthand of what sex with an alpha is. But for Holland, he was terrified. He doesn’t really know why, but he’s not looking at it the way everyone else does. He doesn’t like this life. He wants to be free to be who he wants to be, but as an omega, he doesn’t have very many rights. When it comes his turn to be with an alpha through his Burn, he knows for sure he never wants this again. He will never trust another alpha. Being beaten, raped, bones broken and more, he will never trust anyone again. But now Zilly’s has a new alpha owner and Holland is more incensed. But for Orion, Holland is a challenge of a sort. Not in a bad way. Holland has challenged Orion to be a better alpha than he already is. He wants to protect Holland and care for him. Show him that not all alphas are alike. But Holland has a wall bigger than China’s built up and it’s going to take a miracle to get it down. Unfortunately, one happens, but not in the way they want. And Holland has no choice. Accept Orion’s as a bond mate, or be taken away by his abuser.
I love alpha and omega stories. I always have. Because as usual, omegas are underestimated. Alphas beat their chests and expect everyone to bow to them like they are royalty, but it’s the omega who suffer but remain strong. They go through absolute horror and back and still stay strong. They may not trust anymore, but they keep going. They keep holding their heads up as best they can and they find a way to survive. Well, most times. In this one, once again, we have an alpha who thinks he’s the king and hurts Holland beyond measure. But then we have alphas like Orion, who want the omegas to have better rights. Better things. Better ways of life. He can’t change the world’s thinking, unfortunately, but he can change the way of thinking where he is. One step at a time. And with Zilly’s, through Holland’s help, he does as much as he can. But sometimes it takes an act of Congress to get through to someone who’s been severely hurt. And for them, little things of pleasure aren’t going to make the changes. It has to be something they can see. Like better rights. Or better schooling. Something big to prove to them that someone believes them and in them. And that they are just as good as anyone else, mated or not. And for Holland, THAT’s what he wants.
This is a good story. It ends in an HEA, where both parties get a start of what they want. But it takes time to make a huge difference. And Holland can see that Orion is serious. It takes time, faith and a bold gesture to show Holland how serious Orion really is, but he finally gets it. He finally gets that there are alphas who truly care. That aren’t like his abuser. And things finally begin to change.
