REVIEW:
Years ago I read and fell in love with the first book in this series and I would’ve loved to have listened to it for my Flashback Friday audio reviews, but sadly it hasn’t made its way there yet. But Healing Hunter, the second book in the series has.
This book was a bit more serious than the first book, also filled with more angst and a bit of heartbreak. Or well, now that I think of it, it too was angst central at times… Anyway Hunter and Ari fell in love when the Deagan and the Hagan clans were one. But in the split the lovers were forced apart, forced into separate packs. For years they’ve longed for each other, with only sporadic and secret messages between them. But the discord between the pack is increasing, practically boiling and when Ari overhears some truly awful plans he knows that he needs to warn the Deagan Clan. What follows is intense and packed with intrigue and suspense. You will question the sanity of many of the characters, and hoping they will be stopped before it’s horribly too late.
I loved the start of the book, when Ari and Hunter just started out. It was sweet and you just wanted them together, to live happily, to be free to love. Which made their forced separation so awful. You could feel their longing for the other, their need for each other. It also made their reunion so much sweeter when they were finally reunited again.
The politics of the story was both good and awful. Good because everything isn’t all sunshine and roses, awful for because everything wasn’t sunshine and roses. I love intricate plots, where difficult decisions has to be made, at the same time I also hated some of the decisions made here – they were just too awful – and too insane. The story wasn’t seamless, but felt jumbled at times, there was so much going on, many intrigues and plotlines that didn’t always line up. But I still enjoyed the story and I loved Hunter and Ari.
Nick J. Russo’s narration really enhanced the experience of this book. The man know what he’s doing, no doubt about it. He distinguishes between characters, captures emotions and does accent’s to boot. I mean – what’s not to love?
