They believe they only need each other, until they collide with their soul mate.
Blurb
Jax is an omega, Hugo is human, and their love is forbidden. They’ve spent the last seven years on the streets, relying on no one but each other.
When they collide with Dominic, they realise something has always been missing. Jax is keen to get to know the alpha, but Hugo resists the mate-call, worrying that, as a human, there will be no room for him.
The only way they can be free to love each other is to escape the UK, but will Dominic leave his life behind to find home with two younger men?
Run Free is an alternate universe MMM shifter novel, with fated mates, mpreg, an age-gap relationship, and a happy ending.
“Wake up.”
Even though Jax was tugging his arm, it took a while for Hugo to stir. He opened his eyes slowly, wincing as his body remembered it was in pain.
“What’s wrong?” His voice croaked out of his parched throat. “I need some water.”
Jax helped him to sit and pushed a cup into his hands. “He’s here.”
“Who? Nate?”
“Yeah, but the alpha is too. The alpha. Our alpha.” Jax’s eyes were wide and bright, but his voice wobbled. “He’s here to help.”
Hugo glowered at the cup of water he was holding. He drank a little of the warm water, formulating his response. He felt a weird mix of excitement and apprehension. The tug he’d felt when they’d first bumped into the alpha was present again, yet he couldn’t help but worry that the man’s presence meant that he would inevitably lose Jax. What need would his omega lover have for him now there was an alpha on the scene? He gave himself a mental slap. They were going to leave the city. The alpha might be willing to help them, but there was no way he’d leave his life for them.
“What are the odds?” Jax went on, “that the man we’re meant to be with would be part of this…this…group Nate is involved with?”
“Slim,” Hugo mumbled.
“We’re meant to be together.”
“Jax—” Hugo cut himself off.
“What?”
He cupped Jax’s cheek in his hand and stared into his eyes. “Nothing, mon coeur. I’m glad you’re excited.”
Jax leant into his touch. “How are you feeling?” He winced. “I’m sorry. I should’ve asked instead of babbling on about the alpha.”
“I like it when you babble.” Hugo stroked Jax’s face. “I’m feeling better than last night. Still sore, but I’ll be okay.” He might have been underplaying the pain he was in a little, but he didn’t want to make Jax worry more than he already was.
He wanted to stay like that forever, just the two of them in the little cottage, but he knew they had to go downstairs to speak to Nate and the alpha. They had to make decisions about their immediate future. He wished the alpha weren’t here. The only outcome Hugo could see was that Jax would get his heart broken. It would hurt Hugo too when the alpha walked away from him, but he knew Jax felt the mate-call much more strongly than he did.
He brushed his thumb over Jax’s lips and then pushed the blanket aside. He gasped as pain tore through his side.
“You’re not okay,” Jax whispered.
“I did say I was still sore.”
“That looked like more than sore.”
“I’ll be fine.”
Jax backed down but didn’t look convinced by Hugo’s assurances. Clutching his side, Hugo stood, swaying on wobbly legs until Jax steadied him.
“Painkillers wouldn’t go amiss.”
“There are some downstairs. Do you want me to bring them to you?”
Hugo shook his head. “I’ve got to go down anyway. Help me?”
They walked down the stairs slowly. Hugo used the bannister and Jax for support. With every step he took, the tug in his stomach grew. He could only imagine how powerfully Jax felt it. It must have been overwhelming for his lover. Hugo also found it confusing. The pull he felt to Jax had become a background hum, something that was always there, like a ghost hug. But to feel the same tug to another man… It felt almost like his soul was cheating on Jax. He didn’t like it one bit.
