Painting themselves a life together will be a royal ordeal.
Small-town boy Cal Walters doesn’t know whether he owes his phenomenal success as an artist to talent or to his connections to famous people. Doubt leaves him secluded—until a lost bet lands him on yet another blind date. But this one is different.
To Teofilo Vabriga-Kastav, playboy prince of the tiny nation of Porvunia and passionate art lover, Cal’s paintings are as intriguing as Cal himself. When Teo invites Cal to his country for an art competition, a whirlwind romance sweeps them up. But it can’t last—loyalties and obligations bind them to lives that are worlds apart.
Cal and Teo might’ve found their perfect complements in each other, but to hold on to their happiness, they’ll have to get creative.
REVIEW:
What could have been a disastrous blind date, turns out to be more. Cal is not that happy to have been coerced into a blind date with a friend’s friend, but he gets more than he bargained for in Teo, as he is a prince. They both are trying to figure each other out, as Cal doesn’t get swept up in the amazing royal life of Teo and Teo isn’t quite what he reputation has been in the public’s eye.
If you’re looking for a fairy tale, this isn’t quite it. Fielding takes the surprise Prince theme and turns it on it’s head. When Cal meets his date, who finds out pretty quickly is a prince, he isn’t starry eyed over him. There is chemistry but obligations get in the way. And both are noble for their efforts, but they do gravitate towards each other. Cal is such a nicely developed character and his dedication to his family are quite noble. His love of his art keeps him honest. Teo is still trying to find his way and discovering his purpose, destiny, and the obligations that come with the crown.
This is part of a wonderful series Fielding has written, but you don’t have to read the others to enjoy this book. The ties are slight references, not marring the current story, but are nice tidbits to catch up from the other couples. How they end up together takes some twists and turns but makes for quite an enjoyable book, with pretty low angst beyond character development that each must go through. Fielding takes what could have been a fluffy, light read and gives it depth without pulling too hard on the heartstrings.
