Hi everyone! I’m Macy Blake and I’m super excited to be here today to celebrate the upcoming release of All Kidding Aside, the first book in my Magical Mates series. Magical Mates is a spin-off series set in my Chosen One Universe, so if you’re a fan of those guys, you’ll see some old friends here. Not to worry, though. If you haven’t read any of the Chosen books, you’ll still be able to pick this one up and meet a crazy cast of characters.

 

Big casts are sort of what I’m becoming known for. Lots of characters, and finding home in unexpected places. I love the idea of a made family, and think it’s so important these days to know you can make your own as well. In All Kidding Aside, we’re introduced to a new pack with an unexperienced alpha. Oh, and did I mention that the pack is made up of orphans? 40 of ‘em.

 

Victor Eastaughffe is a griffin who isn’t a fan of kids or germs or being dirty. So or course I had to toss him into the mix to see what would happen. Never fear, Victor finds a giant bear construction worker and a super cute red panda toddler to make everything better. Here’s an exclusive snippet from All Kidding Aside. I hope you enjoy it!

I need to make a call.” Victor tried to move Gus from one side to the other, but the little guy wasn’t having it. He clung to Victor and his eyes filled with tears. Victor looked terrified. “I just need to get my phone, Gus. It’s in my pocket.”

 

“No,” Gus said adamantly and wrapped his arms around Victor’s neck again.

 

Riggs tried not to laugh at the perplexed frown on Victor’s face. “Want me to get it for you?”

 

Victor scowled at him. “I’m sure I can manage.”

 

He tried moving Gus to the other side once more, but Gus wasn’t cooperating. Then he tried to reason with the little guy. Even Riggs knew better than to try to reason with a toddler, but he had to admit, Victor gave it a great effort.

 

“Gus, I am not putting you down. I simply need to move you to my other side so that I am able to reach into my pocket.”

 

“Bird.”

 

Victor sighed.

 

Riggs decided to be nice and help. He opened the bag Nick had left with them and dug around inside. He pulled out a little bag of bear-shaped crackers and gave it a little rattle while trying not to laugh at the choice of snack Nick had provided. “Mmm, snack.”

 

“Nack?” Gus said, his head swiveling around to look for the crinkling sound.

 

“Want to share?” Riggs said. He held out his arms, and Gus eyed him suspiciously.

 

“Nack?”

 

“Got ‘em right here, little man.”

 

Gus held out his hands, and Riggs lifted the little guy carefully into his arms. Gus stared at him like he’d hung the moon and something in Riggs’s soul shifted. “Man, you’re cute.”

 

“Nack.”

 

“On it.”

 

Riggs sat down at his paper-strewn desk and opened the small bag of crackers. He handed one to Gus, who began to crunch messily. Victor hadn’t moved. He simply stared at Riggs with a look of shock.

 

“Make your call, Victor, while you have the chance.”

 

“Right. Yes. Good thinking.”

 

Riggs tried not to pay attention when Victor moved to the other side of the room, but he couldn’t take his eyes off the man. He was perfection. All long and lean and… way out of Riggs’ league.

 

“Bird,” Gus said.

 

“Yeah,” Riggs seconded. “Bird.”
