Shane is a man lost to depression and alcohol after the Giovanni family murdered his partner and lover, Thomas. Now, he finds that his career with the F.B.I. hangs in the balance as he is called upon to take a case that involves the same mafia family that stole everything he has cared for in his life.
Andrew is a Marine and witness to a gruesome shooting that has left him in the crosshairs of the crime family that Shane is trying to bring to justice. Placed in protective custody, he must depend on the broken, yet handsome man that the agency has charged with protecting him.
As Shane’s past and Andrew’s present collide, both men find that their lives aren’t the only things at stake. With hitmen, violence, and a mole in the agency, they will come to depend on each other and start to heal wounds, but risk falling in love, in hopes it’s not too late.
REVIEW:
This was a really good story. I loved it. Witness protection, hot Marines, Hot FBI agents, angst, the mob, being on the run. I mean what more could you ask for. An action packed book that left you wanting more. My only complaint is that this book needs some proofing. Some grammatical stuff needs fixed, but other than that, it’s a really good story.
When Shane met Thomas, he fell hard and fast. But with Thomas, he hated that his job with the FBI took him away a lot. And this new case against a mob, was even worse as they were trying to pin these guys down. But Thomas knew what came with the job and accepted it. The only problem was, when Shane went to arrest one of the main mob guys, he didn’t expect it to come back to haunt him. He lost Thomas to these goons and he’s not gotten over it. His life is the bottle now, as much as he tries to work. But his director is giving him one more chance to redeem himself and maybe get his life back on track. He needs to protect a Marine named Andrew, who witnessed the same mob guy killing more innocent people. And Andrew needs to be kept alive to testify. The problem is, there’s a mole somewhere in the department and they don’t know whose phones are bugged and whose aren’t, because every time they get somewhere, the mob isn’t far behind. But Andrew and Shane have pretty much figured out who it is and it’s confirmed when he shows up and tries to take Andrew hostage. But Shane’s not losing another lover, and he will go down with a major fight. Now it’s up to Shane and Andrew to get out of this alive and intact.
I really enjoy these kinds of stories. I love good murder mysteries or books where you know the murderer but the government has to find out how to get them. It’s just the suspense of the story and wondering what’s going to happen next. And this was a page turner. For sure. You never quite knew who was up to what or who was going to be the one to stab you in the back. I figured out the one mole, but with the way it was going, I was wondering if it was possible for there to be two. The way it was playing out. And with there being trouble on the Marine side as well, you got to see how far this mob’s reach really was going. But even with Shane’s grief, he didn’t back down from his job. And he could have quickly, especially when Andrew reminded him of his dead lover. But that’s what I loved about these two. With all they were going through, they didn’t give up. Sure they were scared, and shaken up, but they kept on going, knowing that what they had to do would save more innocent lives down the road. And knowing that these evil people needed to be put behind bars and justice be served. Life is never easy in the military or in government agencies. That’s only in movies, tv and books. But I do like how it was made to appear more real.
It’s a really story. I think you guys will enjoy it. Give it a shot and see what you think.
