Wanting to distance himself from his toxic parents, Trent Love moved to the quaint town of Blissville to begin a new life. What he finds is blazing chemistry with a hunky fireman who breathes new life into him.
Fearing they’re too different, Tucker attempts to extinguish the spark between them before it can ignite. How could a simple man like him compete with Trent’s life of wealth and privilege? Knowing you shouldn’t want something doesn’t make it go away, and Tucker’s desire for Trent continues to smolder.
Unwilling to accept their relationship is dead on arrival, Trent puts his resuscitation skills to good use. All he wants is a chance to prove he values Tucker’s wealth of character over meaningless material things. What do you get when you mix fire and oxygen: a five-alarm fire or a prescription for love?
Trent’s commitment to freeing himself from poisonous ties kindles a chain of events that have devastating consequences for both men. Is a relationship forged in fire strong enough to overcome these obstacles or is their love doomed to be just another bitter pill to swallow?
REVIEW:
Note: This is the 7th book in this series, but it can be read as a standalone. However, there are major spoilers for previous books in the series 🙂
Tucker is happy with his life as a fireman. He grew up in Blissville with his Grammy after the tragic death of his parents. He has had a thing for the new doctor in town, Trent, since he moved to Blissville. But he sees them as being too different to work. Trent comes from money and Tucker’s just a working guy. But Trent has been enamored of Tucker too. After Tucker decides to adopt two cats, his Grammy kind of schemes to get them together 😉
Their first date earlier in the year hadn’t gone well. Trent tried to impress Tucker, but the fancy restaurant didn’t impress him and instead made him stiff and nervous. Now that they are more or less on the same wavelength, they decide to try again. And boy, is their chemistry hot! They seem to fit together seamlessly. And pretty soon they are spending all their time together.
But Trent’s family is a problem – well not his beloved sister, Mercedes. His parents, however, are another story. One of the main reasons he moved to Blissville was to remove himself from their toxic atmosphere. Trent’s BIL Benji gives Tucker the lay of the land on the awful parents and his and Mercedes decision to cut all ties. He also warns him that he’s got a target on his back since now he’s certain the parents will redouble their efforts to bring Trent back into their orbit.
Things are going so great with Tucker and Trent. Their friends and families mesh well. Their relationship is easy and natural. Then of course the shoe has to drop. And boy is it a doozy! It blows a giant hole in what Trent and Tucker have been building, and nearly destroys everything. Luckily there are enough friends and family that help them see what they need to do to get things back on track and protect their relationship going forward.
Oh this was a really good story. Be aware that there are quite a few sexy times in this book – so you may want to listen with earphones 😉 Trent and Tucker are perfect for each other – even if they appear very different from the outside. I loved Mercedes and Benji and their girls. Trent’ Grammy reminds me of my grandmother. She was totally awesome and although she’s been gone for many years, we still hear stories of the wonderful and thoughtful things she did for people. Everyone needs a Grammy! I also really liked Tucker’s friends – both his old friends from high school, his colleagues at the fire station and his new friends through Trent. Of course Trent is amazing – particularly since he’s grown up in a house with terrible parenting! He and Mercedes turned out well in spite of them! As usual Joel Leslie does a fantastic job of narrating this touching story. These guys really did have to go through a lot to get to their happy ending. I don’t know if there are any more stories planned in this universe, but I can think of a few guys who still need their happy endings too 🙂 Recommended!
