Truth seeker. Promise keeper. Guarded heart.
By day, Jonah St. John is a criminal analyst for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. By night, he produces Sinister in Savannah, an investigative podcast, with his two best friends. Jonah’s life revolves around three principles: a man’s word is his oath, friendships are priceless gifts, and love is for other people.
When the Sinister in Savannah team delves into the thirty-eight-year-old murder of a drag queen, they quickly discover that the story doesn’t end with the alleged killer’s confession in 1995. Continuing the investigation could have fatal consequences for Jonah and everyone he holds dear, including his irresistible intern.
To love is to lose: a lesson Jonah has learned the hard way. For a decade, he has embraced solitude as his penance for a past mistake. Then came Avery Bradford, a man whose warmth and sunshine infuses Jonah’s battered soul and challenges his resistance. Over the past eight months, Jonah has soared closer and closer to Avery’s flame until the thing he’s feared the most becomes the one he can’t live without.
The chill of danger merges with the heat of desire, forming a deadly superstorm. Will Jonah seek shelter or ride the lightning?
Sinister in Savannah series is a fictional podcast exploring the city’s most nefarious crimes with Southern-fried snark. The books explore friendship, love, loss, and the irrepressible human spirit. Ride the Lightning is book one of three. While each book is written about a different couple, the series should be read in order. Sinister in Savannah is an LGBT romantic suspense series with mature language and sexual content intended for adults eighteen and older.
REVIEW:
I really enjoy Aimee Nicole Walkers mysteries. Her Curl Up and Dye series was top notch and I do miss Gabe and Josh. But I have found a fantastic replacement in her new Sinister in Savannah series. This series begins with the story Ride the Lightning. This series revolves around a group of friends that have a true crimes podcast. This story focuses on Jonah and Avery. Jonah works for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Avery is his intern. As part of their duties, they are working together to develop better technology to use in the GBI. Jonah becomes embroiled in a cold case that will be covered during a podcast episode. His neighbor Marla has recently been given the news she has a short time to live. She brings a case to Jonah to enlist his help finding out the truth regarding the death of a friend. As Jonah pursues the clues left behind, he and Avery become closer and closer. But as they grow closer, Jonah gets closer to the truth behind the death of Marla’s friend and puts his own life in extreme danger.
As with all Aimee Nicole Walker’s stories the world building is out of this world. She creates a stunning picture of Savannah and surrounding areas. She creates such memorable characters, from her main characters to the side characters. My favorite side character in this story is Marla. Marla is the perfect blend of snark and charm. Aimee creates a mystery that keeps you guessing throughout the whole story. Of course, the sexy times between Jonah and Avery could lead to the burning down of Savannah, it is so hot. Her character dialogue and narrative are fantastic.
“No one wants to think that innocent people land in prison, especially not on death row. History has taught us otherwise, and I’m afraid some people weren’t paying attention to the lessons.”
As the group gets closer to solving the old true crime case, will Marla get the closure she seeks? Will Avery convince Jonah, that what they have is worth continuing? The ending of this one is flat out a shocker, that I did not see coming. Take on Ride the Lightning and be prepared to read this one in one sitting. I am really looking forward to the next story in this series.
