There is nothing I hate more than when some big-city outsider stirs trouble in my peaceful little town. When Mr. Arrogance himself waltzes in and thinks he can slap a price tag on my land, he doesn’t know what he has coming. I’m not just a hick cowboy who’s going to bend to his good looks and charmless personality. No, sir.
I don’t care how smart he looks in his fancy suits, all he cares about is money.
I just wish I’d known who he was before I kissed him.
LACHLAN
The last thing I wanted was to get stuck in a small town with a plethora of quirky people. If the stubborn cowboy doesn’t see sense soon, I don’t know what I’ll do. Failure is not an option. I was sent to make a deal, and I’m not leaving until it’s done.
I don’t care how hot he looks in his low hanging denim, boots, and hat, he wouldn’t see a good opportunity if it smacked him in the face.
I just wish I could get the taste of him off my tongue.
City and country collide in this enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, low-angst MM romance novel.
REVIEW:
This for me was a surprising release from author Nicky James. It’s an unexpected low angst novel in a brand new series. As I love me some cowboys this was begging to me for read it and I was sold from the get-go.
In all fairness, I have to say that it took me a bit to warm up to the story and both main characters. Where you kind of expect to dislike Lachlan and love East I noticed myself not really connecting to East in that way either. I found him kind of obnoxious and childish lol.
But boy does Miss James know how to write a story and to find a way no matter what to get you involved. She absolutely managed to not only get me on board with this story and it’s people but got me absolutely involved with both East and Lachlan and their own stories.
What I appreciated was the slow build up of the story. It was most needed to get a feel of what was happening and what way it would continue to go (or not go for that matter), with the enemies to lovers trope working out expertly.
I don’t want to give away too much as the blurb already reveals some things but let me just mention the side characters, family, friends etc who are so worth looking into. Can I please request to read more Christian, more Knox (Lachlan was so right about him btw I believe), and in general just to read more shenanigans from Hometown Jasper.
A slight mention need to go to the animals on the ranch. I loved reading about them from the big log of a dog to the whistle especially for Bella.
And let us not forget a little small tiny person that will squeeze and capture your heart and make you fall in love even more (and no I am not saying anything more 😀 )
The epilogue adds just that tiny bit more to make it even more special. It is swoon-worthy, so very real and genuine and so very much East and Lachlan. It made my heart warm.
You know, I want to live in Hometown Jasper when I grow up …I hope Miss James treats us to more in this series very soon.
Go ahead and get this treasure which shows a totally different side by this author. Kudo’s
