STRADDLING THE LAW
In the not what he expected column, Brad Williams is shocked when LAPD Captain Eric Meyers shows an interest. Tempting…but, no. While Brad might be working at The Gates, and seems all law-abiding, in his former life he was a cat-burglar, and Eric knows it. There’s no point in starting something that won’t go anywhere, especially since Brad’s sure all the captain’s feeling is residual gratitude that Brad took a bullet for him. Yet, what they learn about each other becomes deeper and more meaningful than either of them expects.
REVIEW:
I had a feeling this story was going to happen. With the chemistry between these two colliding in Joey’s story, I was hoping they would get together. But for Brad, he didn’t figure he had a chance. But how wrong he was.
Eric had been in lust with Brad from the moment he saved them. He wanted to get to know more about the man for a while. But Brad was nervous about it. What could a cop and a reformed thief have in common? Heck, Eric could still technically arrest him for what he’s done. But Eric ambushed him at his PT and wasn’t going to take no for an answer about giving him rides back and forth. And then leading to a date and more. Brad was still nervous, but thankfully, he had his Grams kicking him in the tail to get him to move it. But when their pasts truly come out, will things still be ok with them? Or will Eric want to run in the other direction? Or with all that’s happening, it may be Brad that wants to run.
This story was complicated on so many levels for these two. Brad being a thief before. No matter what the circumstances were, he still was. And Eric being the cop. But it’s more than that. Brad saved Eric’s life and Brad doesn’t want to be dated out of guilt or because Eric feels he owes him. He wants to be seen for him. And despite what he’s done. But Eric has his own crap he’s dealing with himself that’s causing problems. So it’s a complicated thing for them. The one thing they did though, is they talked. And that was the best thing they could have done. It cleared the air between them and it caused them to be able to move forward in all they wanted to be. It doesn’t mean things are easy. Because life has a way of dealing blows like crazy. But they knew what they wanted in each other and that was it for them. They were willing to fight for what they had in any way they could. And did.
It’s a great story. I’m loving this series as much as I love the Brighton one. It’s just got great characters and everything you could want. I can’t wait to see who’s next.
