BLURB: Dark cloud, meet seven-foot wall of sunshine.
We’ve been friends for almost a year, we both volunteer at my brother-in-law’s gym for combat vets, and the chemistry between us is undeniable. So, getting together should be a no brainer, right?
Yeah, not so much.
Pairing up the joyful refugee NBA hero with me – the grumpy wanna-be artist who cracks jokes about being waterboarded – has got to be the mother of all bad ideas.
An even worse idea? Let’s add a splash of kink to the mix.
Surrender is a post-military, hurt-comfort MM romance with gentle power exchange, a therapy office set next to a sex club, and a gym full of scorching hot head cases.
REVIEW:
We met both of these characters in the previous books. Jake is the resident Yoga instructor, and Jean-Pierre is the pro basketball player and friend/patron of the gym who helps out with other clients when needed. Each came to the table with their own baggage. Jean-Pierre was a genocide survivor who married to keep himself in the closet, although his now-ex-wife remains a friend.
Jake has some issues of his own, but when panic attacks occur, Jean-Pierre is just the person to handle them. It took me some time warming up to Jake, and I had some trouble connecting with these guys on their own, but together, they made a good couple.
These guys are both really sweet, almost too much so for my tastes. There is some mention of light kink in the blurb, i.e. Jake’s needs, but there isn’t very much attention on that in the actual story. They do engage in some light kink, including some breath play, that spices things up a little bit.
I love the premise of this series – a gym that focuses on helping ex-military by giving them a place where their needs are understood, they can feel comfortable around others in similar situations that is run by guys who understand. While I haven’t been wowed by any of the books thus far, they are enough to keep me coming back for more. Likewise, there are some great characters and quite a few that I’m still hoping to see in their own stories.
