BLURB:
Into the Paranormal World: After a master vampire’s evening meditation is interrupted, he discovers his well-ordered life quickly begins to unravel.
Master vampire Krispin Stearling has led his coven for over one-hundred-fifty years. Ruling his people while running a successful hotel and bar—which affords the vampires a safe, discreet place to search for donors—creates a great deal of stress. Krispin finds refuge on his rooftop garden and meditates there often. Imagine his surprise when his beloved literally falls out of the sky, taking out a swatch of bushes with him. After Krispin drives away his beloved’s attacker, he takes him to his suite and ensures he’s well cared for. He learns his name is Washington, and he’s a tracker for the nearby Aerasceatle clutch. The gargoyle who’d injured him is a rogue he’s been tracking. While Wash admits to wanting to pursue his bond with Krispin, he has reservations. Wash’s clutch recently gained a new chieftain, a new inner circle, and he’s just coming to terms with the changes. Can Krispin convince Wash that switching his loyalty once more, to a vampire no less, will be well worth the upheaval it’ll cause to both their lives?
REVIEW:
Note: While this is book 30 in this series, it can be read as a standalone. It does contain some spoilers for Book 27.
Master Krispin has a successful life and has managed his coven expertly over time. He’s happy with his life for the most part, although now that one of his best friends is bonded with his fated mate, he can’t help wishing for his own. As luck would have it, his gargoyle mate literally falls from the sky onto his rooftop oasis one evening after he’s been attacked by another gargoyle who has gone rogue. The Aerasceatle clutch has had it’s issues, with a bad leader who has been removed in favor of a new chieftain, but there are still issues with those bad apples who were loyal to the old chieftain and his ways. Krispin takes care of Wash, his newly discovered mate, but Wash feels it’s his duty to continue to track the rogue and take him down – especially since his quarry is the mate of one of Krispin’s inner circle.
Beyond the mating of Krispin and Wash, there is also a local threat to the coven. Wash and Krispin and all of the coven are thoroughly disgusted with the human who tries to interfere. In the end there is a need for some outside assistance from yet another Coven that can call in reinforcements to help neutralize the threat permanently. Once that’s taken care of, we’re on to bigger and better things for Krispin and Wash and the coven as a whole 😀
So anytime there is the possibility of a Gargoyle and some other paranormal getting together and having offspring, I’m there! Krispin and Wash are actually very cute together. I really loved that Wash was so dedicated to his job and his clutch, but that he realized his place would ultimately be with Kris and the coven. Surprisingly, we don’t have a huge amount of sex in this one and we don’t see Wash’s molt on page which is a little different for this series. But in it’s place there is a pretty hilarious conference call that more than made up for it 😉 I did also enjoy getting to see some couples and covens from past stories here too – but don’t worry if you haven’t read those books because it won’t take away from the plot or the action if you haven’t read them. Krispin and Wash are a great team and they successfully fight off all of the obstacles and villains in their midst. Plus we might get to see more hatchlings in the future now that we have more gargoyles in this coven 🙂 These books are like crack to me – I just am addicted and I don’t want to stop. Luckily there seems to be no end in sight for this series, so hopefully we will get to visit this Coven again soon and catch up on what’s happening with all of the couples who reside there. Recommended especially for fans of this series and the gargoyles in particular 😉
