Sometimes it takes a child to remind us that love and family are rarely perfect but an accepting heart can smooth out the imperfections.
Mike Kneller-Mettler’s life has certainly been on the fast track upward since he met his husband, Bryn. Now married for nearly a year to the starting goalie for the Pittsburgh Ravens, Mike’s found himself propelled into a new home, a new career, and a new role as loving spouse. As his baby sister’s wedding approaches, Mike is going to be faced with a couple of monumental decisions that will affect not only his future, but the everyone he holds close to his heart.
Bryn Mettler and his team haven’t had the best ending to their season. Nursing a recurring groin injury, Bryn isn’t quite sure he’s ready for wedding chaos. But, the nuptials are going to go off whether he’s able to dance with the bride or not. Amid the usual insanity that every wedding brings, unexpected guests show up to throw the beautifully planned affair into turmoil. As the adults slip into childish behavior, it might be up to Liam to be the voice of reason.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the third story in this series, and while it could be a standalone, there are major spoilers and missed opportunities to understand the relationships without reading the first two books. Plus they are adorable – so go for it 😉
At the start of this story, Bryn and his team are on the quest for a repeat of the Finals, but it’s not to be. He’s injured and feeling kinda low. Of course his husband Mike isn’t going to allow that for long 😉 And they’ve got his sister Kelly’s wedding to get through in a couple of weeks. As Mike is the Man of Honor, he’s got a LOT of duties with this wedding. He’s also got a client from hell that making his life stressful as well.
But on an evening out with Bryn and some other hockey friends, Mike gets a text from someone he literally never expected to hear from again. And the ramifications of that text and the ensuing attempts at renewed contact are pushing him to the edge. In an attempt to provide support to his sister, since it is her wedding after all, he feels like maybe he’s compromising himself more than he wants to.
Bryn, for his part, tries to keep the stress level manageable for Mike, but he’s looking to his life after his playing career is over. He really wants to start a family and he wants to take steps to be ready for that. Unfortunately, he doesn’t include Mike in these decisions because he doesn’t want to add to the stress – but his unilaterally making these moves does not go over well.
The wedding does go on with some unanticipated guests and Mike is none too happy about it. But it is for Kelly and really because Kelly wants it that way for Liam. While Kelly is on her honeymoon, Liam is staying with Mike and Bryn. Normally this is a good thing because both Mike and Bryn love having Liam around, but this once, there seems to be once again unanticipated visits and visitors that Mike could really do without. Bryn is the best support, but he’s not sure how to comfort Mike. Thankfully Liam, who as usual is the glue for this family, gets the adults to focus 🙂
I loved this installment! Bryn and Mike are still learning how to be spouses – and of course they make mistakes. Reality! Liam is his usual hilarious self. I absolutely adore the voice of this character. Completely natural and genuine and authentic kid voice! His hysterical and I love his chatter. Bryn learns how to take a step back. Mike has to work on forgiveness, although to be honest, I might have taken longer than he did. Kelly and Adam get their dream wedding and I honestly can’t wait to see what happens next to this family. Highly recommended. Sweet and funny!
