Thomas Walsh knows the number one rule in the film industry. Don’t get involved with the talent. But resisting the urge to take the big screen to the bedroom can be hell when the lead actor on the set looks good enough to eat…one slow lick at a time.
Peter Erickson’s latest role as a gay man hits a little too close to home. He’s still in the closet and secretly grieving the death of his lover. Then an enchanting production assistant catches his eye, and he’s surprised by the instant attraction that stirs more than his wounded soul.
When the two men are caught on camera in a very intimate pose, both Thomas and Peter are afraid they’ve caught a tiger by the tail.
REVIEW:
Thomas is a production assistant in Vancouver. He’s good at his job as demonstrated by his 10 years in the business. He’s worked on movies, TV shows, etc. His job is to basically get things done and not be noticed. But on this movie, he’s noticed right away by A-lister Peter. Peter is starring in the movie with Cole, another actor that Thomas knows from his work on the TV series Cole stars in. This movie has been changed from an M/F romance to one featuring Cole and Peter. Thomas doesn’t usually like being noticed, but he can’t help but be intrigued by Peter who he has always assumed was straight, but maybe that’s not the case?
When after a long day, Peter invited Thomas to dinner – something that Thomas has never done with an actor before – he relents. But he doesn’t want to go someplace fancy. Instead he takes Peter to the beach area and they enjoy some unusual food and treats. But it seems that they are the subject of pictures that appear by the next morning on the internet. Nobody is happy about this turn of events – except it seems maybe Peter is. He’s harbored a secret (although apparently it’s not all that secret) and he’d like to be able to live his life authentically at this point.
Thomas has not come out and he’s not had a relationship since he left his hometown and moved to Vancouver 10 years ago. He also has a secret in his past that has stopped him from moving on with this life in many respects. And he’s got a sort of melancholy demeanor, but he also feels something when he’s with Peter and that’s never happened to him before. Just maybe they can figure this out together if they can be honest with themselves and the other people in their lives.
This is a well written story. I really liked the way the author provided both Thomas’ and Peter’s points of view. I will say that I would have appreciated a bit more of a heads up as to whose head I was in as the transitions between the two were not all that smooth or obvious. Thomas has placed a lot of guilt on himself and he’s struggled to move on with his life and he is determined to be a success so that he can make his family proud. Peter is tired of hiding and lying and just wants to live his life and we can feel his connection to Thomas. He is trying to get beyond the grief and move on, but he needs to do it on his own terms. In Peter, Thomas has found someone he feels that he can trust. He doesn’t know how this could be happening to him – it certainly wasn’t something he looking for and I was happy seeing him get some love and affection since he’d definitely denied himself a lot. My only real complaint is that of course this is all a bit insta-lovey – but given what seems to happen with movie sets, perhaps that’s not so far-fetched. I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed, but I did like seeing more of the supporting characters and how they tried to be there for Peter and Thomas. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I hope it won’t be the last. I really liked the writing style and sense of time and place. Recommended, particularly for those who are fans of coming out stories and mutual second chances stories.
