Lurking beneath the surface, a monster waits. Possessive. Dominating. Alpha.
Aver Walker isn’t one to make waves. He’s steady, calm and sensible. He and his cousins have carved out a good life for themselves and things around the Walker house are finally starting to look like normal. Their version of normal, anyway.
And Aver couldn’t be more miserable. He’s been living a lie, hiding his sexuality and his nature. No one realizes his rational demeanor is a facade and it’s getting harder to hide the dominating beast lurking beneath his skin. The only time he can be himself is when he leaves his home. At the end of each trip, he has to tuck his true identity away. The task was never easy, but he always managed, until he met the man who made him want to be just who he was for every moment possible.
Self-professed guardian gayngel, he helps those who need his help, too bad he needs it the most.
Hollister is the first man to know, family isn’t who you were born to, but who you choose. He hasn’t survived as long as he has without hope, a whole lot of luck, and the best friends a man could ask for. Now, he does what he can to help those around him. His job as a fortune teller on the pier pays only so much, but he doesn’t need much. He has his friends, and they have fun, like the night they go clubbing and Hollister’s life changes forever.
Every time Aver returns home, he lets go of a life he’ll never get to live. But after a weekend with Hollister, Aver refuses to shove the memories, or the man, behind him. Hollister makes him feel like he could have everything he wants, his life in the pack and his man by his side. But, as things once again begin to heat up on pack lands, Aver is split by the two sides of his life. The pack needs a leader–once and for all–and the Walker house sits in conflict. Without their matriarch, they are flying blinder than usual and the decisions they make now will change everything.
Love is the fourth and final book in the Wolves of Walker County series. It’s packed with the romance, jokes, loyalty, and love you’ve come to expect from the Walker men. Love answers that question everyone in Walker County has been asking, who will lead the pack?
For maximum enjoyment, this quartet should be read in order.
REVIEW:
This was one heck of an ending and I love it. I also love that there’s a spin-off coming from this. But what I really love is that in the end, it’s finally how it should have been all along.
I knew this story was going to be a doozy. With Aver having to hide himself for so long, I knew it would take someone truly special to finally make him break down those walls to be himself. Finally. And he found that in one of his trips to a gay club, in a young man named Hollister. But what neither of them know, is actually how much they tie in together already. And it isn’t until some things happen, that it finally sinks in on how much the fates or whatever are involved. But it isn’t going to be an easy thing. The time for the interim alpha is up and manipulation is flying around everywhere. From Aver’s parents, to Delia, who is still locked up. And then they realize that all the Elders but one, have been in on all this from the beginning. And the boys are disgusted. And with what the Elders are pulling, it’s time to fight back and put a stop to it all. Especially when Hollister’s gift reveals a lot. But with all that’s being revealed, it means that someone is going to finally have to step up as an alpha. But what the Elders don’t realize, is that in their greed, power and manipulation, they made some very bad mistakes. And now the time has come to pay. But will it end in a good way….or bad?
I knew this was going to be a tough story. I knew it. Between Aver going to finally have to come out, the Elders and the boys parents being the way they are, the behind the scenes back-stabbing and everything else, I knew it was going to be one heck of an ending to this series. It was going to be bad for the boys too, because all their lives, they’ve only had each other, and now with Aver changing, it feels different to everyone. And it’s not going well. But what each of them has to take the time to realize, is it’s exactly what the Elders and parents want. They want them split up and fighting. And I hate what they’ve had to go through in these stories. It’s been horror for all of them. In some form or another. I hate that their lives are just like play things for their parents. It makes me sick. And without Nana being around for the boys as well, they feel like they’ve lost their biggest anchor of all. So yeah, I bawled in this one bad. There are some scenes in this one that just tore me a new one. It was a hard read. But in the end, it’s worth it. That’s what we have to remember.
In the end, the pain and everything is worth it, if they need to set the balance the way it should be. I hate they had to go through it all, but it’s how it should be now and should have been all along. I actually thought the alpha thing was going to turn out a little different than it did, but I’m happy to see how it did end. No one was more deserving.
