As the son of an enemy, Kieran never expected to find a family with the Kincaid Pack… or a true mate’s bond.
After barely escaping his abusive family, wolf shifter Kieran McAllister struggles to find his place in the Kincaid Pack. Especially with the pushy but gorgeous second-in-command showing up every time Kieran turns around… and making him want things he shouldn’t.
The traumatized wolf who continuously refuses Bennett Young’s help has begun to haunt his dreams. But if there’s one thing he knows, it’s that tiger shifters don’t have mates. So why can’t Bennett get Kieran’s sad eyes out of his head?
Despite their differences, Kieran and Bennet find something they never expected in each other. Just as their bond begins to grow though, Kieran’s past threatens to destroy the very pack they both have been fighting to protect.
REVIEW:
This second book in the Kincaid pack series kicks off with a prologue that starts almost exactly where the first book finished. However, this time the romance is focused on Bennett and Kieran. Bennett Young – the alpha’s second in the Kincaid Pack, and tiger shifter amongst mostly wolves. Bennett is everything thing I love about a second-in-command shifter. He’s an absolute badass when it comes to the bad guys, but a protective softie when dealing with the pack that he considers his family. I loved that even though he was physically tougher and ranked higher than Kieran, he didn’t try to act like he was the boss of their budding relationship.
Poor Kieran, on the other hand, is struggling to find his place amongst the Kincaid Pack. He’s lonely and scared and is eager to please his new alpha even though he feels unwanted. When the book begins Kieran is a hot mess. Actually, for most of the book Kieran is a hot mess, the stress of uncertainty causing him to doubt himself and his pack mates. But once Kieran finds his strength, once he realizes his value, he also becomes an absolute badass in the battle to safeguard those he cares about.
As this is the second book of the series, I’d recommend starting with book one and reading the Alpha and his King. Could this book be read as a standalone? I don’t think so, but it’s always hard to judge when you’ve read the series from the start. Although the main couple is different to the first book, Kieran and Bennett are both very present in the first book, and the main character from the first book play pivotal roles in this one. That’s actually one aspect that I love about this series so far. While the romance parts focus on a particular couple, the overarching plot features a huge cast who all play their parts. While the carried over plot does develop further here, the super-secret, super bad guy is only just getting started.
I enjoy the way Kiki Clark writes her stories, old school cast-off collecting packs that that end up the strongest and bravest and nicest and smartest and just plain ‘bestest’ pack around. PLUS – the author included a pushy human woman named Karen, who demanded to share her opinions with people who did not want to hear them. That deserves bonus points!
I definitely recommend the Kincaid Pack books to lovers of shifters and witches.
