From CHAPTER FIVE BLAINE “Great,” he mumbled, and took a half step toward the kitchen. “Guess I’ll go get that drink then.” Amanda smacked a palm down on his shoulder. “Go for it,” she told him, and gave him a shove. “But hurry back, you might miss a single second of what Jayce does when you’re not around.” Blaine knew better than anyone how flirty Jayce got when he was drunk. Could anyone blame him for being a little… cautious? Rolling his eyes at her response, he eased around the crowd and ducked down so he wouldn’t be spotted so easily. Being tall wasn’t all that great. It made you an easy target in a crowd, no matter how large or small, and right then, he wanted anything but to stand out. He relaxed once he made it into the kitchen, but didn’t see the good vodka anywhere. It probably wouldn’t be that hard to find, but it wasn’t like he was fifteen anymore and replacing his dad’s vodka with water. Caleb would notice, so he just choked down a shot—okay fine, two—of the cheap stuff, and then made a mixed drink. He liked beer better, but Jayce’s favorite was the mixed drinks and it was easier to just grab one type of alcohol at the store. It didn’t taste bad, he’d give him that. Goosebumps raced across his skin from the open patio door, so he awkwardly stood in the middle of the kitchen for a moment. Freeze in the cold night air, or watch Caleb and Jayce dance and flirt? Honestly, he was stumped for a minute, unable to make up his mind. But… the temptation to witness a drunk Jayce was too much to resist.
