My name is Nao. I love oolong tea and cats. I’m the interim godfather of the Kyoto yakuza until our leader finishes out her prison sentence.
What’s your claim to fame?
Almost a year ago I single handedly defeated a faction of the Korean mafia invading Kyoto. I admit they story has taken a life of its own, but I’m not correcting it.
What are you absolutely determined to do?
I’m determined to keep Kyoto safe from the Korean mob trying to take root in the city once again.
How different was your life one year ago?
A year ago I mostly kept to myself. I would work in my tea room and come home and play with a cat. It was quiet. I miss it.
Is there anyone special in your life?
I can’t have anyone special in my life because the city will find someway to kill them. Shinya, killed. Saehyun, killed. No matter how much I might want to be something more than friends with Aki I don’t for his safety.
What challenging thing are you working through these days?
The Korean mob has encroached in Kyoto more and more. All of our battles against them has ended in failure. I don’t understand how I could defeat them all by myself once, but now with the full power of the Kyoto mafia behind me I can’t.

Aki closed his fingers around the paper brim of his empty coffee cup and ripped another small piece off. Without looking, he added it to the pile on the table. Mindlessly stuck on repeat, he ripped, added, ripped, added, over and over.
He’d spent the night in the twenty-four-hour Korean café, trading off between sleeping in the bathroom and eating cake to justify staying. He’d been hoping to improve his Korean, but the speakers played nothing but pop songs.
