Roman “Quick” Webb is one badass bounty hunter on the crime-filled streets of Atlanta. He’s fearless when it comes to carrying out his dangerous job alongside his longtime best friend and business partner, Duke. However, there is one thing that has begun to cause Quick concern and it’s the dreadful thought of living out the rest of his life alone.
Dr. Cayson Chauncey has been wildly attracted to the big, tattooed hunter for almost a year, ever since he performed the surgery that saved Quick’s best friend’s life. Cayson must’ve mistaken Quick’s gratitude for something more, because the one time he tried to make his desires known, he was harshly rebuffed and left on the man’s doorstep feeling stupid for hitting on an obviously very straight man.
Dr. Chauncey stirred up Quick’s suppressed, most carnal desires from a place deep down inside of him. He’d reacted so badly the first time that now his sexy surgeon wanted nothing to do with him. It was going to take a fair amount of patience and a whole lot of wooing involved as Quick sets out to convince Cayson that he’s worth another chance and that he is the brave lover who Cayson has been looking for.
REVIEW:
This is book two of the series Promises from Ms. A.E. Via, which is about a group of badass bounty hunters in Atlanta led by Duke, who we all met in book one. Book two is about Quick, Duke’s partner in the business, and Vaughn’s father, who is Duke’s life partner.
Now we know from book one that Vaughn has been in love with Duke for a long time but he needed to make himself into an accomplished man before he can go after who he wants, Duke. After donating one of his kidneys when Duke got hurt, they were confronted with the reality that life is too short, and so Duke and Vaughn have decided to move in together, leaving Quick alone, without his son and without his best friend who are now both too busy with their own lives. Quick is finding it a little difficult to adjust to all the free time he’s got. Although they all still see each other several times a week, and daily for Duke, things are not the same anymore. And most of all, Quick is afraid of the fact that he might spend the rest of his life alone!
Dr. Cayson Chauncey operated on Duke during his medical emergency when he was beaten nearly to death by a crazed addict. He was instantly attracted to Quick which he tried to act on but was instantly rebuffed by the attractive man. Cayson has been looking for that special someone who would be fully out for him, not keep him like a dirty secret. But so far, those are the ones who he have been with. He is getting discouraged and depressed, his self-esteem at an all-time low after being with all the wrong men. And after the rejection he received from Quick, he really believes he is just not worthy of having that special kind of man and relationship. His current “friends with benefits” is so deep in the closet, he decided to just stop being used by him.
Basically, this book deals with extreme loneliness of men who think they are already beyond the age of attracting the right kind of man, and that by this age, they should have had partners of their own. It deals with low self-esteem due to the lack of a stable relationship. How Quick and Cayson’s characters were voiced by Mr. Aiden Snow was amazing, you can hear the loneliness and the self-doubt each man possess. Being able to voice vulnerability in strong Alpha Male characters is a feat in itself. These men are strong, capable, smart and able to hold their own amazingly in their respective profession but they are still human, and you can hear that humanity in every syllable and thought expressed through the voice of Mr. Snow. Congratulations to both Ms. A.E. Via and Aiden Snow for a brilliant follow-up to an amazing book one.
