Other Worlds: Digging Deep

Hey all… I’m popping in for my monthly column here at Love Bytes. *waves at Dani*

I’m about three and a half chapters into my latest book – tentatively titled “Twin Moons Rising” – set in the same world as “The Last Run” and an as-yet unpublished short titled “Tharassan Rain.”

I’m also in the midst of trying to land an agent AND relaunching some of my older books, and I’m trying to improve my craft.

I’m a BIG fan of epic sci fi and fantasy, and it’s not uncommon for my books to have six or eight or ten POV characters, but it sometimes comes at the expense of plot movement. So I am taking my time on this one, working over the first three chapters before charging full speed ahead into the story.

And I’m only allowing myself three POV characters.

I know, right?

It’s rough. It’s like covering one eye, limiting my character point of views this way.

But I’m hoping it will help push my plot along for this book.

I’ve always said when you think you know everything there is to know about writing, your writing dies.

Will it work? I don’t know. But I’m damned well gonna forge ahead and try.

Scott lives with his husband Mark in a yellow bungalow in Sacramento. He was indoctrinated into fantasy and sci fi by his mother at the tender age of nine. He devoured her library, but as he grew up, he wondered where all the people like him were.

He decided that if there weren’t queer characters in his favorite genres, he would remake them to his own ends.

A Rainbow Award winning author, he runs Queer Sci Fi, QueeRomance Ink, and Other Worlds Ink with Mark, sites that celebrate fiction reflecting queer reality, and is a full member member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA).
