Luca’s new flame, Kane Delancey, is the man of his dreams until he suddenly stops calling and goes back to dating women. Luca is heartbroken but he’s made of grit. Nothing keeps him down for long. His job brings him joy, his employees keep him on his toes, and his friends make him laugh even when he wants to cry. When someone close to him is suddenly murdered, Luca reaches out to the only person he can think of for help.
Kane is in for a reckoning and he doesn’t even know it. With Luca back in his life, he’s forced to be honest with himself and try to navigate his new reality. Meanwhile, someone has hacked into the Justice Department and stolen a list of WITSEC protectees. While the US Marshals rush to round up potential targets all over the country, Kane and his friends at the ATF, the LAPD, and the FBI realize they may have a serial killer on their hands.
Someone is picking off people… one by one. They must be stopped.
REVIEW:
I am not going to lie. If I could give this series a 10 out of 10, I would. It is everything I love in a mystery, murder mystery, thriler, however you want to describe it. For me, Patricia Logan has hit it out of the park with this series and I can NOT wait to read the next two. Of course, you need to read these in order. If not, you will be lost.
I want to shake Kane so bad in this series sometimes, but I get it. After thinking himself straight for years, he’s run into jewelry store manager, Luca, and Luca has knocked him on his butt. He can’t get the man out of his mind. In book 1, he was fighting it so hard, he was being hateful, and although in this one, he’s a little better, he’s still fighting the fact he’s attracted to a man. But worst of all, his cases seem to have Luca right in the middle of them somehow. With the first, it was his jewelry store involved and now, a club he frequents and a friend who ends up dead. At the end of book 1, they find out a WITSEC list has gone missing and the whole case ends up with Kane undercover with the LAPD to solve a 20 year + crime spree. Now, one man from that operation has gotten away and is targeting those in the WITSEC. And now Kane and crew have to stop them, before Kane’s own family and many others end up dead. Because these guys have no end to their corruption.
It’s funny how Luca and Kane have been intertwined with these cases, when they didn’t know each other at all. Except for when Kane saw Luca at a club with his woman date and was drawn to the man. Needless to say, his date didn’t end well because Kane couldn’t take his eyes off Luca. But it was worse because Kane was warned repeatedly not to mess with Luca if he couldn’t back it up and he continued to do so and hurt Luca repeatedly. So yeah, I want to shake him hard. A lot. But then again, he’s a good agent and he’s been there for Luca when he’s really needed it and it’s been needed. These cases have been leading these cops and agents around, some for many years. Just when they think they have it nailed down, something happens. It’s been one thing after another, with robberies, murders, ghastly ones at that, mobs, and everyone seems to be intertwined somehow. This one was so sad because of a friend of Luca’s ended up being murdered and when found out why, it was more devastating. They’ve all been hard up to this point because all the cases are personal in ways and are connected in weird ways that weren’t seen before. So it’s doing a number on everyone, to be honest.
When you deal with mobs, and murderers and so on, man you get into some heavy stuff. And it’s heavy. But it’s a perfect book. It really is. It’s everything you want in this kind of genre and I could not recommend this more. If you haven’t read this series, you need to so bad. I’m going to be diving into the next one real quick because I can’t wait to see how everyone interacts again. I know I probably haven’t described how good this book is, I hope I have, because you need to read this series.
