They have to find him, but how?
A former member of an elite military special forces unit, Leo Bailey can handle anything life throws at him. Except maybe approaching a certain gorgeous, purple mohawk-wearing, heavily pierced artist. Not without his three eye-rolling wingmen along to push him in the right direction.
One look at the mouthwateringly muscled, military buzzcut-sporting man with the endearing blush, and Vincent Noland is in love. Or at least in lust. Love comes later. Then marriage…and sweet, adorable Oscar.
Life is perfect—the stuff of fairy tale happily ever afters—except for Arthur Fletcher, whose unsettling reactions to them threaten to upset the happy balance of their lives. But it isn’t Arthur who throws their lives into turmoil.
A freak event causes Oscar to go missing and leaves both men frantic to rescue their son. As they piece together the clues, they discover that Oscar isn’t somewhere. He’s somewhen. And Arthur Fletcher holds the key—or rather the glass beads—to their one chance of finding Oscar.
Will Leo’s training, Vinnie’s determination, and Arthur’s knowledge help them rescue Oscar, or is the little boy doomed to spend the rest of his life at the mercy of a primitive civilization? Could there be a third possibility?
REVIEW:
Quick plot summary without spoilers – Vinnie and Leo meet at one of Vinnie’s art shows. Leo is shy, but his buddies push them together and that’s it – they are inseparable. They eventually get married and move to the PNW where Leo becomes a teacher and they have a son, Oscar. They like their new town and home and job and are crazy about their son. They have some nice friends there and things are going well. There is a guy, Arthur Fletcher, a professor at the community college, who has weird reactions to them over the couple years that they’ve been there, but otherwise life is good. And then Oscar disappears. And they are determined to find him and get him back. But they need a lot of help – from their friends and others. What they want to do and what they end up planning is completely unexpected.
Well this was quite a surprise! I really can’t talk about the plot without giving waaaay to much away. I just loved this story though. Many times Addison Albright leads me in one direction and then pulls off something unexpected. This is another example of her ability to take some concept, time era or genre and flip it on its head. It’s a story of love – between Leo and Vinnie and between fathers and son. Don’t try to worry too much about the physics or mechanism of time travel – just accept that it could happen this way. There are some interesting loops and further surprises that happen along the way in Leo and Vinnie’s journey. The result is just a really good and interesting story that answers the question what would you do for love and to make sure your family stayed together. Highly recommended.
