I had eyes on Ryder as he lingered on stage to give the audience one last wave. Typical of him to always take up the rear of their exit but I was ready for him. I watched him grab a towel and a bottle of water as he cleared the curtain, and I was already moving in to take up my position behind him when he suddenly stopped short. His movement was so quick I almost slammed into his backside, then he spun around and got in my face. My training reflexes had me wanting to react proactively, but before I could make a move, Ryder made his.
His mouth slammed against mine like a bolt of lightning searing through the sky from an unseen storm cloud. My feet fused to the floor, and my training flew right the fuck out of my head. All I could do was hold on and hope Ryder left behind a big enough piece of my body for my family to give me a proper military burial. One gloriously, taunting sweep of his tongue plundered my mouth, and then he pushed me away. It happened so fast I wondered if I had imagined it purely because it was a constant fantasy running on an endless loop inside my head, but his teasing laughter jerked me back to reality quick enough.
“ I was right,” Ryder said with a wolfish grin. “You do taste as good as you look.”
I stood there for an awkward moment and watched him walk off in the direction of his band as if he hadn’t just seriously fucked with my head. It wasn’t until I heard the voice of my boss bark out another command in my earpiece that I forced my feet to move from the spot Ryder had made them take root. I caught up to the band with Ryder still lagging at the back edge of the group, and I purposefully averted my eyes from him so that I could do my damn job. Ryder obviously had other ideas about that.
The guards ahead of me had created a barrier to get Maiden Voyage into the green room without disruption, and I was to take the last spot at the doorway. Once the band members were all inside the room, we’d close the doors and let them celebrate the success of the show in private while we blocked the doorway and the hall from anyone wanting access to them.
That’s how my team had rehearsed it, but apparently Ryder never liked following orders. He stopped at the doorway and faced me. My body flinched at what he might do to me this time, and my hand was already lifting to give him a push into the room if he hesitated too long in place. Then he leaned in closer, that sexy as hell grin still sensuously tugging at his lips, and he fucking winked at me.
“ That blush on your face is my new favorite color,” Ryder said, and then he stepped into the room where he disappeared in the center of the gathered crowd as if they’d swallowed him whole.
Yeah, Ryder Hampton was going to give me serious trouble on this tour.
And blue balls.
