Nothing can prepare Josiah Kimbrel for what he finds when he enters the compound of the River Wolf Pack. As an ambassador of the human-werewolf congress, Josiah is keen to build bridges between the two species. Josiah is surprised to see how ‘normal’ things look in the compound; the wolves, all of whom are gay, live in family units, complete with children, in houses built from local materials. He is even more surprised when he goes into what in the shifter world is called “heat” and is claimed by River, the alpha of the pack.
REVIEW:
As a whole, I’m really intrigued by this series. It’s an interesting twist on some things and the tension is thick with plots to try to wipe out the shifters permanently. My only complaint, if I have one, was there was a little too much mating going on, but, considering it was the alpha, I could see why lol.
Josiah was on a mission to try to make and keep peace between humans and the wolf shifter community. Neither is trusting of the other, because too many murders have been committed on both sides. But what Josiah finds, other than some hostility, is that they are not much different than humans at all. Except for the wolf part. And as he writes down his findings, he’s noticing things are starting to change. And the biggest change of all, is coming from him. He’s terrified, thinking they’ve done something to him, but when he finds the truth of his heritage, he has to learn to accept that he’s one of them or turn his back on his mate and go home.
It would be a hard position to be in for Josiah. I felt for him. Not knowing what he truly was and all of a sudden being amongst shifters, he’s finding he’s one himself. And a mate to the alpha. Yeah, I think I’d have a freak out moment myself. While the thought of being a shifter is appealing for sure, it would still be a scary thing to have come out of nowhere. Not knowing this is a part of you and then having to accept not only are you a shifter, but an omega at that and a mate. But it doesn’t help when there’s open hostility in the air as well. It doesn’t help that he’s thrown a fit because he didn’t understand. So there’s all sorts of tension in the air and I can’t blame him for his side of it. And while River may be a good alpha, and he is for the most part, he could be a little more sympathetic to Josiah’s plight. It’s not an easy adjustment for him. But as the book went on, some other things caused the balance to be shifted in different directions and I’m curious to see on how it’s going to be handled.
Not a bad start to this series.
