BLURB:
One young American tutor + one dangerously sexy widowed king = conflict, chaos, misadventure and lots and lots of sexytimes
Jai
For the record, sleeping with my boss was not part of the plan when I started this new job. A job I desperately need to get my parents off my back about my chosen career path.
But the second I catch sight of Lukas Romansky in the flesh, I know I’m in trouble. The guy is pure sex wrapped in a three-piece suit, and not even his stuffy attitude or the way he seems to despise me on sight is enough to stifle my attraction.
But I’m here to work, not to hook up. It doesn’t matter how sexy Lukas is, or how sweet he is with his children—sleeping with the boss is never a good idea.
Oh, and did I mention my boss also happens to be the king?
Yes, King Lukas III of Korova, the man voted World’s Sexiest Head of State three years in a row. Hooking up with him wouldn’t just be a bad idea, it would be an international scandal.
So believe me when I say I didn’t come to Korova with the intention of seducing the king. But sometimes things just happen. And is it my fault I’m impossible to resist?
The King and Jai spins off from Virtually Screwed (Love & Luck #2) and is the first book in the Royal & Reckless series.
REVIEW:
Note: This is a spin off from Olsen’s series Love & Luck and can be read as a standalone, although it does contain spoilers for Book 2 of that series.
Jai is so happy to have found a job that will utilize his skills. His parents have refused to help him with any more school – even though he desperately wants to pursue his PhD The job is far from New York City in the tiny kingdom of Korova. Jai is thrilled to be there – but he didn’t know exactly who he’d be working for until he arrives. When he discovers he will be working for the King, tutoring his children in the royal residence, he’s a bit overwhelmed.
When he meets the children, he really likes them. He enjoys his job working with them – they are intelligent and well-behaved and really quite fun. The King’s wife had passed away, so the children have several tutors who supervise them. The King appears to be a big aloof and cold when it comes to his interaction with Jai – but he obviously loves his children.
Jai really likes his job and he’s pretty happy with things. Then he discovers that the King has a hidden secret 🙂 And that explains why he’s held Jai at arms length. But Jai is pretty persuasive and he is very attracted to the King. Lukas for his part, is also very attracted, but he has a lot on his plate – not the least of which is the royal family, the laws of succession, his younger brother’s welfare and his children. Lukas has not had an easy time of it despite being king, thanks to his father. The question is, can Lukas be true to himself and still lead his country?
This is an adorable story! A bit Sound of Music, and bit the King and I, and a bit of romcom thrown in! I love both Lukas and Jai. We meet Jai in a previous story, and he’s a good guy. He is happy to pursue his dreams, but he wants things to be OK for Lukas and for his kids. His sweet and giving nature are much on display in this story, as are his snark and humor. Lukas is carrying a lot of baggage from homophobic family, but he’s doing his best. He displays a lot of personal courage in this story and I loved that he is able to be himself. There are also some cute and engaging kids in this story 🙂 Recommended particularly for those who love sweet, snarky romances with minimal angst.
