Martin tells Jack that he needs to move on and find another relationship, but Jack is holding on too hard to his past to see love when it speeds through the small sleepy town he guards.
Rebel Marino lives up to his name. He fights hard not only with his fists but keeps a shield tightly around himself to keep from letting anyone get close. Rebel inherits a home and business from his favorite aunt, whom he sees even though she recently died. She tries to convince him that the tall handsome sheriff is worth a leap of faith.
Together they start to discover what it means to move on, to trust, and push the boundaries of not only their interest in BDSM but of love itself. It’s not easy, as someone is desperately trying to frame Rebel for crimes around Jack’s beloved town. A third man, who is secretly in love with Jack tries come between them and rip them apart before their love can fully bloom.
Caught between his blossoming love and the job he’s dedicated his life to, Jack struggles with being the sheriff and being the man Rebel needs him to be.
REVIEW:
I wanted really hard to get into this book, but I had such a hard time. I think it’s honestly a personal thing. The more I think about it, it’s not the book itself, but to me, it was just too much about the sex and lifestyle. Now let me explain. Having been a part of the lifestyle, I have no objections to it whatsoever. I was actually happy to see that Jack could help Rebel in ways no one else really could because he could give him something to take him out of his head and make him truly free and see how things really were. And that does take a lot of work. But like I said, it’s a personal thing. It’s not the book or the lifestyle. So I don’t want anyone to take it that way or not give the book a chance.
As a whole, for the most part I liked where this was going. Jack is a sheriff of a small town and still grieving the loss of his husband. When he pulls over a cocky young man by the name of Rebel, that immediately got under his skin. And in a way he didn’t like. But his husband kept coming to him and telling him it was time to move on and Rebel may be the perfect thing for him. But Rebel isn’t one to just let go either. It’s been fight or flight most of his life, and he’s all up for fighting. Especially when someone hiding in the closet tries to hurt him. But for Jack to get through Rebel’s walls, he is going to have to dig deep and go back to the lifestyle he only shared with Martin, his dead husband. And it’s going to bring up demons neither are ready to exorcise. But with some discipline, tough love and patience, both are starting to move forward. Purging everything bad out. But there’s other things on the sidelines that are trying to tear them apart. And they may succeed if Jack can’t get a handle on things.
Like I said earlier. I love the relationship Jack and Rebel end up developing. It takes time and patience and tough love, but it’s something the both of them needed to move forward in their lives. And it’s not easy for either one of them. My heart broke for Rebel and his story, because, unfortunately, I understand the feeling. Religion is often used so wrongly and I hate it. It hurts more often than it helps and it’s a shame. But Jack helped Rebel see things as they were and he made Rebel feel secure in who he is. None of us are perfect and we all deal with things differently. But Jack knew one way to finally help Rebel and it was a great purge. It took time. And will continue to take time. But progress is good.
Give it a shot and see what you think. The relationship with these two was really good, but I just needed more. It’s a personal thing, nothing more. I hope you all enjoy it.
