BLURB:
Is this a love worth fighting for?
One man is haunted by a past he can’t outrun.
One man is branded by a legacy he can’t hide.
One man is burdened by a guilt he can’t deny.
The usually peaceful town of Riverside Falls has had its very core shaken by traumatic events. Three men find themselves at the center of it all, thrown together by circumstances beyond their control.
Sawyer Levy came to Riverside Falls four years ago to escape from…well…life, but when he finds himself in need of care, he’s forced to trust not one but two men for the first time in years.
Grant Belford is riddled with shame in the tragic aftermath of incidents he didn’t see coming, blaming himself for the terror that rocked his town over the last few months.
Captain Mason Lockley is struggling with the recent events that have shaken up the quiet town of Riverside Falls, tormented by one thought, over and over again: Did he miss the signs because of jealousy?
Having no choice but to lean on each other, the three men suffering with their own demons aren’t expecting to have such an undeniable connection—or to fall so hard. It’s a love they don’t understand, but will they realize it’s worth fighting for?
***Fight for You picks up where Thirst for You left off. Therefore, if you would like to avoid spoilers from Thirst for You, it is suggested you read that book first in order to truly understand what the characters in this book are going through.
***There is a retelling of a violent event from an MC’s past. Though it is not told as it’s happening, it may be triggering to some readers.
REVIEW:
Before we get into this book that I have been waiting forever to happen, not necessarily in the way it did (which makes me super happy), but that I’ve been waiting for the stories of these three and why they are the way they are. If you will note at the end of the blurb, there are two sidenotes. One is it truly does pick up where book 3 left off and if you don’t read it, you will be truly lost. Also, note 2 doesn’t fully tell, in my opinion, how big of a trigger some of these events could be for some. It’s several violent events that are being retold as the town is trying to get over what has happened and constant nightmares for the two main victims. It’s a truly horrible experience that these guys have been through and all the victims, because there’s more than two, are feeling guilt, sorrow, fear, PTSD and so much more from it. So PLEASE, be careful in reading it.
I had a feeling from Sawyer, way back in this series, that he wasn’t what everyone thought he was. Which was homophobic. I had a feeling something had really happened to him or someone he knew to cause him to act the way he did. Unfortunately, it came across as churlish and worse to Drew, which set them sparking off each other all the time. But when it came to saving Drew’s life, he didn’t hesitate. And then I really knew. But what his story truly is, is beyond what I could have dreamed up and I broke for him. And the more the story got out, the worse it became. Then came Grant’s story and Mason. Mason doesn’t have a bad story, except he’s been hurting and loving Grant from afar for years after Grant left him. When the truth of Grant’s story came out and his reasoning behind it, as well as his feelings over all that just happened, it again was too much. And I honestly didn’t know who to feel worse for. These two victims of life, or for Mason, trying with all his might, to hold these two together and fix it. But that is the key right there. Mason can’t fix it. And when it all came to a head one night, Grant and Sawyer knew as well, it was time to get help. But even with help, Sawyer was still too terrified and he felt he had to leave. In order to fix himself, before he could be anything to those two men. But the problem is, the fear is overwhelming. So it’s up to Sawyer to find a way to overcome, or shatter the love of three men and all they could be.
I was not kidding when I said I was waiting for these guys’ stories. I didn’t expect it to turn out the way it did, but I’m happy it did. For the three of them. They mesh together in a way that’s perfect for them, and when one piece is out of whack, they all are. And the puzzle feels broken. So with all they were going through in this book, I will not lie. I bawled like a baby. They were all trying so hard in different ways and nothing any of them were doing was working. I am glad that even if it took a blow up from them all, that they started to recognize the signs of what was really happening to them all. They were falling apart and trying to use each other to make everything ok. When it was far from it. They finally realized they all had so much to deal with. Even Mason. And until they did, nothing was going to get better. Unfortunately, for Sawyer, things were much worse and it was pure devastation. And I broke for him. Because fear can cripple us in ways we don’t even know. And then in some ways, it makes us stronger and more aware. But I do have to say, I admire the heck out of them. Because even with all that was against them, they kept fighting. Even if it meant time apart for a while, they kept fighting to make things right. Somehow, someway. And that takes courage and strength in so many ways.
This is not an easy story to read. I won’t lie. There’s a lot of bad things going on, a lot of bad pasts cropping up and a lot for them all to deal with. But it’s a story of hope, forgiveness, love and second chances. For a lot of people. It’s a chance to start over and reclaim their lives. It doesn’t mean it’s easy or that there will never be setbacks. But they are learning together, they might have a much better chance to make it.
