Mark Vincent has risen from senior special agent to Director of Interior Affairs in the WBIS. Lately, life has been sweet for him—in addition to his promotion, he’s found a partner in Quinton Mann, who can almost match his ability in the intelligence field, in spite of the fact Quinn’s CIA. Mark has also found a condo in Alexandria with the help of Portia Mann, Quinn’s mother, and it’s closer to Quinn’s town house than Mark’s present apartment. Sweetest of all, Mark plans to take Quinn to his island in the Caribbean for the holidays.
Quinn’s glad he has the holiday with Mark to look forward to—something is going on at Langley, and he feels he’s being kept out of the loop. To make matters even worse, useless missions and sleepless nights filled with nightmares are leaving him exhausted. But then his mother’s life if threatened, and Quinn discovers the accident that resulted in her hospitalization was no accident. The obsessively self-absorbed Senator Wexler is involved, and while Quinn considers himself a civilized man, now he’s out for blood.
Up until this point, Mark has stayed out of Quinn’s CIA business. But hurting Quinn and those he loves isn’t a smart move, and Mark has every intention of seeing Wexler pays. Quinn demands to come along, and while Mark isn’t happy, he finally agrees, and they set out together to deal with the senator. There’s just one catch: this will be the first time Quinn sees Mark at his deadly best, and Mark isn’t sure how his lover will react.
REVIEW:
I could not possibly be more happier with the way this book went and how it ended. I do hope there will be more from Quinn and Mark in the future. It’s not only funny to read, it’s captivating. It’s a heck of a good plot, mixed with chemistry, espionage and so much more. I literally cannot put the book down when I read them.
This one gets even more intense I think, because the stakes are being raised in so many ways. Not only in Mark and Quinn’s relationship, but in the world around them. Especially in their jobs. There’s corruption all the way up in high offices and they are doing their best to take out Mark and Quinn both, in their ways. But they screwed up, when in an attempt to take out Quinn, they hurt Quinn’s mother, and for that, both Mark and Quinn will make sure everyone pays. Especially Mark. Because Portia Mann is a force to be reckoned with and for the first time in his life, Mark feels like he has a family of sorts. And he’ll be darned if that’s taken away from him. As Mark and Quinn are trying to navigate their own personal relationship as they get closer, it’s becoming harder too, because past key players are trying to make their presence known. And both men need to learn to communicate and listen a lot better than they do. As they navigate their professional lives, people are having to learn the hard way, that neither are men to be overlooked. And with what they are fixing to have to do, Mark just hopes Quinn won’t want to run away from him after he sees him doing the job he’s always done.
I hurt for Mark so much sometimes. His background alone, makes it hard for him to trust anyone, but in the job he’s in, it’s way worse. And it hurts me when he’s trying to do his best to let Quinn know how he feels, but he can’t. Not in words. And after his past, I don’t blame him. Actions speak quite louder and Mark has more than proved how he feels about Quinn. And it’s hard for Quinn, too, in a way. He’s had a good family life and still does, but being in his business is just as hard. And he is technically supposed to be an ‘enemy’ of Mark’s. Not only that, but most think he’s into women. It’s hard on both of them having to keep up appearances in certain ways, and it’s bound to cause tension. And at times, it does. But I love that they are trying to work through it. Yeah, they snark and bicker, and at times, it seems like they are trying to break it off with each other. But they are truly like an old married couple most of the time and it’s quite humorous at times. But even in their professional lives, they work well and mesh together. Even when they aren’t supposed to. I love that they get each other. That often they don’t need to speak the words. They already know. And they also know the boundaries in which not to push.
But it’s just so much more. I mean, yeah, it’s all about Mark and Quinn and their relationship and work, but there’s just so much more. It really is such a good read. But I love the whole mystery, spy stuff, so for me it’s perfect. If you guys haven’t read this series, you really should. It’s such a good read. And I really hope there’s more to come from them soon.
