Several years ago, Will’s best friend ran away with an alien to live happily ever after. They’ve kept in touch, but Will misses the man that might as well be his brother. So, he decides he’s going to go visit. Who cares if visiting requires a trip to outer space? No big deal, right?
Ticheck met Will for the first time while trying to find a friend who had gotten lost. Since then, they’ve seen him a couple times a year at most. Ticheck wasn’t expecting him to be coming for a surprise visit, and they definitely weren’t expecting to end up with him as a temporary roommate when cramped quarters on the ship force them to share.
From strangers, to surprise roommates, to friends…and maybe something else? But do they dare to dream of a life together when they literally come from two different worlds?
Roommates and Space Trees is a sweet asexual romance. It is book two in the Iska Universe series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

Will and Eric spent the next day catching up and hanging out. They talked, ate food Eric missed, and played games. Nothing too exciting, but all in all Will thought it was a pretty great day.
Ticheck showed up about when Eric had said eet would. It had been darkish for about an hour, but it was still early spring so it wasn’t that late; it was early enough that he and Eric were still procrastinating on dinner when Ticheck knocked.
Eric was in the shower—one last desperate grasp at hot water before going without in the shuttle, he said—so Will rolled off the couch and hurried to the door.
He opened it quickly, finding Ticheck on the other side as expected. He couldn’t help but stare for a second at how Ticheck sort of shimmered in the bright light from the porch fixture.
The Iska people were covered almost entirely in what Eric called not-feathers: they looked like feathers but instead of stiff vanes, they had delicate strands of hair that were incredibly soft and slightly iridescent. Where Keeska’s not-feathers—veeka—were silvery with hints of copper and purple, Ticheck’s were dark gray edged in bright cobalt blue. With ta shimmery veeka, broad, flattened features, large and light gray eyes, and tufted, cat-like ears, Ticheck was gorgeous.
Will probably would have stared a lot longer, but Ticheck fidgeted a little. Will quickly moved out of the way, waving Ticheck inside. He shut the door, trying to be normal and not creepily stare at his guest some more.
He didn’t have this problem with Keeska. Keeska was petite and pretty and the most gender-neutral individual Will had ever met. Ticheck was taller, broader, and more conventionally masculine, but Will wasn’t sure that was the reason. Maybe it was that Keeska was so very much Eric’s, and Ticheck was just…Ticheck. Slightly snarky, probably brilliant, Ticheck.
Will sighed. Yup, it was totally just because he could be curious about Ticheck without feeling like he was perving on his best friend’s partner. Not at all because he had a weird obsession with the alien he saw once or twice a year for, like, five minutes at a time. No big deal.
Ticheck looked at him questioningly when he sighed. Will waved it off. “Nothing. Eric’s in the shower. He’ll be out soon. I can feed you or help you start packing. Or you can just sit and chill for a few minutes.”
Ticheck rubbed ta stomach and widened ta eyes.
Will laughed. “You’re either starving or Samantha stuffed you before you left.”
Ticheck nodded and held up two fingers to indicate the latter.
“Packing or waiting?” Will asked.
Ticheck pointed to the small stack of boxes and duffle bags by the door, nodding.
Will nodded back and grabbed a box and a duffle. Packing it was.
