Quinton Mann, a highly ranked CIA officer, is used to being called the Ice Man. He’s astounded to discover himself in a relationship with Mark Vincent, not because Vincent is a man, but because he’s a top-rated WBIS agent. There they are though, for a total of five glorious days. But when Mark uses the excuse of going to Massachusetts for his mother’s funeral to end their relationship, Quinn’s not buying it.
No one screws with Mark Vincent. Even Mark doesn’t screw with himself. Once he realizes how close he’s allowed Quinton Mann to get to him, he does what any self-respecting spy would do—he makes tracks out of there. But Quinn does something no one else ever has—he comes after Mark. Maybe this relationship thing with a spook isn’t such a bad idea.
Meanwhile, something strange is going on in the intelligence community worldwide. It takes Quinn’s disappearance while investigating a rogue antiterrorism organization that results in Mark making up his mind. Quinn may be a spook, but he’s Mark’s spook, dammit—and once he gets Quinn home, he intends to keep him. He knows without a doubt he’ll find Quinn. The question is, will he find Quinn in time?
REVIEW:
I love this series so much. It’s not just even the spy/mystery stuff. It’s honestly funny as can be as well, between the two MCs. I have laughed so hard in this series. I also love that the story is told from both sides of their perspective, and it runs concurrent to book 1. There is more added, obviously, but it starts out where book 1 leaves off in the other’s perspective. And I really do love that. I love being able to see things from both sides and see how they think about the situation differently.
The stakes have been upped in this series. Mark and Quinn are getting a lot closer and because of it, Mark is in a panic. He’s never let anyone close to him after what his mother has done. And with all the mole crap going on at work, those that call him paranoid have no idea how it’s saved his life and possibly the lives of others. But it’s when he’s called home for a funeral, that he thinks he can escape and get Quinn out of his system and set some things right in his ‘family’. His family wasn’t there when he needed them before, so he doesn’t understand why he needs to be here now. But his plan doesn’t work like he wishes. Not only can he not run from Quinn, but Quinn comes and finds him. And when things take another bad turn, he goes to find Quinn. And he has to pause and reflect. Does he really want to let this man go, or is it finally time to admit….Quinn has him hooked? And when he finds Quinn, will it be in time to let Quinn know, in his way?
Things are definitely changing in this story. It’s almost like everyone is finally growing up. Yeah, Mark hates being chained behind a desk, but he’s learning real quick that delegation truly does work, when you have delegates that are well trained and have a brain. He’s also learning the inner workings of how some things are being run under the Boss’s nose and he’s quickly putting out the flames. So, yeah, he may be behind a desk, but he works very efficiently behind it as well as not. And there are times, he’s being sneaky and doing field work too. But what cracks me up so much still, is even when Mark is scared and on the run, he and Quinn just have this chemistry. The spark off each other. And I don’t just mean in the bedroom. They make each other think and the snark between the two of them is downright hilarious. But I love too, that Mark is finally starting to realize that he can let someone in and it’s ok. He doesn’t trust anyone and he’s finally learning that there’s one person who he can that doesn’t ‘want’ something from him, or is using him for other means. Even at 40, people can still change. They can still grow up. And there seems to be growing up all around. I love it. There’s so much more I could tell you about this book, but I don’t want to give more away.
Just know that this is a great series. It’s fun, funny, snarky, and filled with spy stuff. Makes for a great novel. I can’t wait to dive into book 3.
