When Heywood Miller and Dylan Greig meet, it’s not under the best of circumstances. Two boys become lifelong friends and slowly discover that their love for each other is deeper than they thought. Told in first person through the eyes of Heywood, their relationship over the years is a rocky one at times, but in the end the two of them discover that, just like the song, they Can’t Let Go.
PLEASE NOTE: There is cheating in this story, but the MCs do end up with their HEA!
REVIEW:
Before we begin, there’s a possible trigger. It gets into mentions of drugs and alcohol abuse, nothing severe, bullying, beating, abuse and there is some BDSM in this book. Breath play and a more aggressive side to it. Nothing like blood play or beatings but you never quite know what will trigger someone.
Anyway, after that,.This is a story of friends-to-lovers, of finding themselves and second chances. It’s a harsh story at times, but it’s very real life and good.
Dylan and Heywood ended up friends after Dylan saved Hey from bullying at school. Hey started beefing up after Dylan had gotten him free martial arts training and after defending himself against his abusive father, it was time to run. Starting out in New York with modeling and acting, things started to go to Dylan’s head. And after being caught in a compromising position, Hey felt it was time to leave. They stayed married but separated for 7 years, when Dylan begs for Hey to speak to him. And they rekindle what was lost for so long. But will it last or will things get too much again?
I really love this story, if for no other reason, because it is so REAL. Even without the modeling or acting jobs, this book is everyday life. It is lives people endure every day. And there were moments my heart broke completely. Because all could have been solved with communication and simple respect. And even though this is fictional, it’s a sad reminder too that life can get in the way if we let it. If we don’t stay focused on what’s truly important in our lives, we can lose the very thing we wanted to begin with. And while things have gotten better at some point for Dylan and Hey, it was still a hard road they had to go through and learn. It was still an everyday fight for them to keep what they had. That didn’t mean there were no fights or disagreements. It’s life, we all have them. But if love and commitment is truly in the relationship, along with communication, then more often than not, things will work out better.
It’s a dang good story and I’m glad I got to read it. I hope to see more down the road
