BLURB:
Kevin used to hold himself back, trying to keep his less conventional desires to himself. With Joakim, he feels free. It’s almost as if Joakim can read Kevin’s subconscious, touching the right places at exactly the right time, and whispering the most shameless things…filthy, and oh so satisfying.
Falling for Kevin is easy. Joakim can feel it happening and he’s powerless to do anything about it. With every touch, his desire grows. Men have chased him for his money and status before, but Kevin doesn’t seem to care about any of that. Maybe this time, Joakim should let himself fall, and hope the landing will be soft.
REVIEW:
Passion is the one word I would use to encapsulate Beautiful Beast. This is a truly decadent book; Roe Horvat is an expert at all things erotic, and while this book is about sex, sex and more sex – kinky, filthy, hedonistic sex – it is accompanied by a sweet love story complete with happy ending.
Kevin and Joakim have a bit of a meet-cute in a shoe store when a wandering toddler walks off with Kevin’s boot and Joakim rescues it. Later that night Joakim comes across Kevin quite by chance on Grindr. Kevin is looking for friendship and a relationship, while Joakim is searching for someone to settle down with who is attracted to him, not his wealth or celebrity. While there’s not much of a plot, there is the theme of a regular guy (although how regular is a professional dancer?) who falls for an older man who keeps his billionaire status a secret.
On their first date, Joakim is mildly obsessed with Kevin. He is so distracted by Kevin’s appearance – particularly those plump, pink lips – that he’s rather inelegant and blundering badly in conversation. He’s not a creep, he’s just in awe of Kevin’s beauty and is literally rendered speechless. Kevin doesn’t mind. It turns out he finds the bumbling endearing and is mesmerized by Joakim, too.
The first kiss provides a good introduction to the titillating nature of the book. The all-consuming kiss is so hot, so sensual it lasts three pages. The sex itself is delicious with lots of bondage and use of sex toys. And the dirty talk is debauched. Plentiful and filthy.
One of the things that puts this novel in the erotic romance genre versus erotica is that there is a story with a happy ending, and what makes this story so successful is the intimate nature of it. The sex isn’t just ancillary to the story, it helps define the men. Joakim said it made him feel good about himself, content, sexy and desired. And it allowed Kevin to give himself over to Joakim, to let himself go and be the submissive power bottom he longed to be.
Although Beautiful Beast is the fourth tome of the Those Other Books series, it is a standalone read. Some past characters are in this book but you’ll never feel left in the dark for not knowing them. If you haven’t yet read the previous books you really must put them on your TBR list, though.
Take one wildly erotic novel, sweeten it up with two charming and sexy men looking for love, and you have Beautiful Beast, a book that should delight the right reader.
