With the deck stacked against him from birth, Asher Simmons lives a quiet, simple life. He talks to plants more than he does humans and prefers it that way. Though he often feels like something is missing, understanding what that is and how to get it feels like an insurmountable task.
Making a living out of helping others achieve their professional dreams serves to help Thornton Hayes realize his own. He’s also a Daddy, through and through. But Thornton’s one dream of finding a boy who needs a man to take care of his every need is one he’s had no luck of fulfilling.
When a terrible accident brings the two men together, neither of them expect their intense connection. Has Daddy found a little he can pamper, protect, and provide for, or will Asher deny every instinct he has to regress?
REVIEW:
I have a few thoughts on this story, and most of them are good.
Asher Simmons is sweet and kind and absolutely terrified of so much in life. He’s used to getting by on his own, but day after day, it’s starting to wear him down. He’s not even sure what it is that he needs until he meets Thornton Hayes.
Thornton is the kind of man who’s built his life around taking care of people, helping them rise up and meet their own expectations. But he’s lonely, and he’s tired of not having someone in his life to take care of on a regular basis.
Their first meeting doesn’t go well for either of them…until it does. The connection between them is instant and strong, but finding a way to be together will take patience on Thornton’s side and more trust than Asher thinks he.
There were so many lovely things about this story. I loved the awesome acceptance of the Daddy/little lifestyle portrayed in the book. Both by Thornton’s family and Asher’s friend.
The fact that the author is open and unapologetic about who Thornton is and how he feels about Asher is a blessing.
If you are someone who’s curious about this particular kink and are looking for an introduction, this is a really great story for you.
There were a few moments I had trouble with. I felt that Asher sort of went against the character we came to know in the book a couple times, but mostly this story flows very well. I enjoyed the fact that the women featured in this story were good people and not the scheming bitches that seems to be more and more common in m/m stories these days.
Asher’s sweetness as he found his way into a new life makes him impossible to resist. Thornton comes across as caring and loving and I appreciated the way he let Asher make his own choices, even when he didn’t totally agree with them.
The author did a great job in creating relatable characters who won over my heart. I cheered them on to the very end.
