Mick Hawk awakens in an alley covered with blood from a head wound, with no memories other than his first name. According to Shorty, the homeless man who found him, he was holding a battered driver’s license, so they go in search of the owner with no luck.
Then a man approaches them on the street. His name is Richard Wolfe, and he claims he and Mick are lovers. After Richard convinces Mick he’s telling the truth, the three men set out to discover who wants Mick dead and why. A difficult task, as Mick has yet to regain his memory.
One suspect is Mick’s older brother, Trenton, who manages one of Mick’s clubs and resents the fact their father gave them to Mick instead of him. Another is the man on the driver’s license, who works for Trenton. Or …? All they have to do is figure it out, before someone tries again to take Mick out of the picture permanently.
REVIEW:
I swear either I’m super tired or I’m losing my touch. Now that I think back over this book, I should have picked up right away who the bad guy was, but man it passed right over my head and I was in shock when I found out. I’m losing my touch. For shame, for shame. Lol. Ah well. For those of you who like a good attempted murder mystery, this is a good one. It packs a lot in a short story and it’s really good.
Mick wakes up in an alley and can’t remember a thing. All he knows is he’s holding someone else’s license that he can’t remember. He doesn’t think it’s him and when he sees a mirror, he knows it’s not. But the if it weren’t for a homeless man named Shorty, Mick could have been dead with the amount of blood he lost from his head wound. As it looks now, that’s what whoever did, intended to do. But after a few days of going around shelters and trying to survive while trying to figure out who he is with Shorty, he’s found by Richard, his boyfriend. And he can’t remember him. When Richard takes him home, they are determined to get to the bottom of things. Little by little, Mick is regaining his memory in flashbacks. But it isn’t until he finds something in his work safe that more really comes back and what happened that night. Or part of it. And now they have to come up with proof of who did it and why. And when they do, they all are shocked. And now they have to make it out of this alive.
My memory stinks enough as it is lol. I couldn’t imagine having no memory whatsoever of who I was or anything pertaining to my life. Not knowing who could hate me that much to try to kill me. Not knowing who is lying and who isn’t. Not being able to tell if someone is acting. It’s a horrible thought to think about. And then knowing you had the love of your life staring you in the face and can’t remember a thing??? I’d be devastated. Beyond devastated. So I feel bad for Mick. Not knowing who you can trust or not. Thinking his own family could be the one who was trying to kill him. I just couldn’t do it. I can’t imagine what Mick went through. And even for his boyfriend, Richard. Knowing that he’s the love of his life and nothing. But the biggest would be not knowing if his life would be over by just showing his face. But I have to admire him. With Richard and Shorty, they were determined to not give up. They were going to do all it took to find who wronged Mick. They kept trying, they stuck together and they fought for what was right.
It’s a good story. I really enjoyed it. And if you like good mysteries, this is one for you.
