Long ago, Samun accepted that the Fires intended for him to be single. He’s too direct, too literal, too focused. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t felt a pang of longing as each member of his kif met their mates and started building families of their own. He’s thankful for his kif. Otherwise, he’d always feel on the outside how he feels on the inside—alone.
Still, Samun was as excited as the others to return home to M’Asra. But while they were away, their home was attacked and their people are on the run. He’s glad to be free of the distraction of a mate now. He can help his kif, help his people. That is, until he meets a cunning thief who shows Samun that his Fires have a sense of humor.
Samun knows what he’s meant to do—claim his mate as all his kifmatess have done. But his warrior brothers show him nothing but doubt. They can’t believe the Fires would send him an outlaw to love. They think Samun should concentrate on helping their people, reclaiming a home for their children. As outside forces loom ever closer, Samun knows to save one, he must claim the other.
Matters of the heart have never been his strong suit, nor is explaining his feelings to his family, but he’ll have to learn to do both, or risk losing everything.
Samun is the sixth book in The Kif Warriors, an alien mpreg series. This series is the first co-write between Crista and Kiki. They’ve joined forces to bring you all the humor, magic, steam and action that you enjoy!
REVIEW:
This story is so good, but it made me so sad throughout this whole thing. Kael’s story broke my heart. And the way the kif turned on Samun devastated me. Things have a way of working themselves out but it was the fact they had to prove themselves that upset me so. Samun especially should have been believed and revered, but wasn’t. So this was a hard story for me.
Kael was serving out his sentence in a cell for being a Thief when the attack on Asraf began. What was sad and confusing about it all, was that it was other Asraf fighting against them. Their own kind. After having to escape, things started changing. One was that Kael was caught by Samun’s kif as he was trying to steal food to eat. On his way back to prison, another infected Asraf has come to attack and Samun has to fight. But he’s quickly losing and is soon knocked unconscious. And Kael knows he has to help. He manages to get rid of the other Asraf and when he touches Samun to check in him, the lightning immediately strikes. And Kael is now terrified. He doesn’t want to be strapped down. But when he’s caught by the original jailer, he’d rather be with Samun than go to jail. And his mating bond is kicking in and he doesn’t want to leave. But things are now more complicated. One of Samun’s kif has been infected and no one trusts Kael, which means no one trusts Samun, and that has left things very tense. And Kael is doing all he can to fix what has been done. With Samun’s help. But will it be enough and be in time?
I just still can’t get over how bad the kif treated Samun. I get not trusting someone when bad things are happening and all of a sudden a Thief is thrown in the mix. You don’t know if you can trust him. But as the mates all said when they stood up for Samun, Samun is the most levelheaded and they should have trusted him. It broke my heart. Because it left Samun feeling lost and hurt. Especially when this was supposed to be his family. It was just so hard for me to read. Even the way they treated Kael when all he had done nothing but prove time and again that he was trustworthy and worthy of Samun. He was worthy period. Despite his past. And when all was said and done, it felt like Samun and Kael against the world. And I, for one, was happy to see when it got thrown back in everyone’s face on how wrong they were. They deserved to be ashamed. You don’t treat family like that. Especially not someone who’s had your back through thick and thin.
I love that they proved everyone wrong. And I love how they kept fighting in the face of all that was going against them. But this was a hard book to read. I’m happy it turned out alright in the end, but out of all of them, this one made me the most upset and ashamed. I’m just glad it had a happy ending
