From Chapter 2
Daniel
“What do we have there, Daniel?” Henri remarks in a surprisingly playful tone. “I believe someone may have found a sugar daddy tonight,” he calls out to the entire crew, causing me to blush and sputter as I try to spit out an explanation.
“No, no, Henri. It wasn’t like that. I just caught his coat as it fell off his chair.” Henri’s laugh tinkles, and I can easily see and hear why half of the staff has a crush on him, despite how stuffy he can be sometimes.
Shaking my head at myself, I tear open the envelope and peek inside. A number of crisp 100-dollar bills greet my gaze, and I tap them out into my palm to count them. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
“Holy shit, Henri! That guy tipped me a thousand dollars just for catching his coat.”
At the bottom of the stack, I find a business card for Gregory W. Samson, Samson Shipping. Damn, that’s the biggest shipping company on the West Coast. No wonder he can tip like that. All of the other guys are chatting, comparing tip amounts and trying to wind down from the night. It was a busy Saturday evening, and most of us do not work brunch tomorrow. It is a totally different crew, with the Friday and Saturday night shifts being the most prized. You have to prove yourself to snag one of these spots, and I feel lucky to have slid into one so easily, based on my experience and a recommendation from La Folie’s biggest competitor.
Henri leans over, pushing into my space, eyeing the stack of bills in my lap. “Ahhh, but did you read the back of the card?” His French lilt turns the words beautiful, and I wonder, not for the first time, why Henri isn’t doing something more meaningful with his life than waiting tables in his father’s restaurant. Since he is smiling at me with a mischievous grin, I return the smile and flip the card over.
In the same beautiful script as my name on the envelope, I read, Thank you for rescuing my coat. I must repay you properly as it is priceless to me.

“Oops! You dropped your coat!” With these words, waiter Daniel Collins turns alpha selkie Gregory Samson’s life upside down. Because that coat is not some fancy heirloom fur. No, it is Gregory’s selkie pelt, which magically connects him with his seal animal inside.
When Gregory hears Daniel’ voice, he knows the rare human omega is his mate. Too bad Daniel has more than a few misgivings about trusting his heart to a selkie. Because the magical seal shifters have one of the worst player reputations of all shifter kind and Daniel fears a broken heart. How will Gregory convince Daniel to give him a chance?
It wouldn’t be so hard if Gregory’s mother and everyone else would just stop meddling!
Brought together by the magic of Gregory’s coat, can the pair weather insecurities, an interfering mother, meddling friends, and a disgruntled inner animal?
The Selkie’s Coat is book 1 of the Waves of Fate Omegaverse. It can be read as a standalone.
