Drew’s life sucks. Saving money to escape his homophobic family is one thing, but his only paying gig at the moment is playing his father’s “only gay in the village” plus-one to every LGBT friendly business event.
Then his brother comes up with a plan. Sheffield needs someone to go undercover for his police investigation. Drew has all the qualifications: he’s gay, he has experience with exotic animals, and he’s college-aged. And he’s easily bought.
Going undercover to solve the mystery of a college campus smuggling ring was never in his plans. Neither was hot, perfect, house captain Rylee. The inside jokes about cats, animal prints, and talk of a place called Vihaan that forbids same-sex relationships, are just the tip of the suspicious iceberg.
Little does Drew know that he’s about to expose more than an illegal smuggling operation. The truth could be more lethal than he could imagine. And, despite it all, it might be his own secret past that kills him before the truth can be unveiled.
REVIEW:
Possible triggers: mention of rape, addicting of drugs, abuse, beatings, kidnapping younger kids, warped BDSM scenes
I was really impressed with this book and the start of this series. I like the characters and the truth behind it and how they helped others. And I love how Drew finally has a family after the way his own has treated him.
Drew has a past that haunts him everyday. Whether it be from what his father and mother have done to him, even his brother, to the time when he finally came out as gay and is being used a pawn in his father’s political and job related gains. Add in an abusive ex-boyfriend and you’ve got someone who is ready to run far away. But his brother is more or less forcing him to do a job for him. Infiltrate a fraternity and find out if they are moving exotic animals. Especially cats. But as he gets to know the ‘captain’ of the frat, Rylee, he finds out he can’t betray them. He finally feels like he’s found a home where he belongs. And when he finds out the real truth to everything, he has to come up with a way to get rid of his brother or lose the only family he’s even really had.
I hated what Drew had to grow through. I know they say that things we go through make us stronger, and I guess in a way they do, but it doesn’t mean the process doesn’t stink to epic proportions. And he had a lot to go through. But what I loved, is the way the guys just accepted him, even though they had every reason to not trust him. And technically, they shouldn’t have. Drew told the truth, and was so torn about everything, it was crippling him. And the guys just surrounded him with love and friendship and acceptance. Something he’s never had. It took a while for Rylee to really accept Drew, but I can’t blame Rylee either. He was badly hurt himself. And when Drew and Rylee find the connection really between them, it’s shocking. But he has a new life and new friends and family and it makes all the difference for these guys. Because all of them at some point, know the feeling of what Drew has been through or going through.
