Reynard Drake, solitary cybersecurity expert and curator of the Drake family fortune, would rather be chucked in the midden than forced to bed an omega, but as the selected Amethyst candidate for the mating experiment, he has no other choice. Resigned to his unhappy fate, he takes solace in the fact that one thing will never change—his virtual rival, Magpie, will always be there to keep him on his toes, even if he has been strangely absent from the internet lately…
Diamond Disgrace Misha Vasiliev has a secret. By day he learns what it takes to warm a dragon’s bed, but at night he’s Magpie, renowned hacker and dark web service provider who steals from dragons in his spare time. His favorite target? Reynard Drake, whom he’s only ever seen in pictures, but whom Misha wants more than anyone else.
And now, with a faceless threat closing in on his cloister, quite possibly the only one capable of saving his life.
Magpie is a 64,000 word steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set during the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains pretty things hidden where the sun don’t shine; a scandalous screenshot or two; plenty of laughs; its fair share of tense moments; and, of course, “Beagle!” For maximum enjoyment, Magpie is best read as a companion piece to the Forbidden Desires series.
REVIEW:
I gotta tell you, I almost put this book down. Almost. But my curiosity got the better of me, so I had to finish. I love these guys, don’t get me wrong. I love these series, but Misha got off on the wrong foot with me and it took me a long time to actually like him. At the end, I loved him and I adore Reynard like you wouldn’t believe.
The hard part for me, was that Misha was more or less using Reynard. Reynard intrigued him and he used him to get what he wanted. The problem is, his plan was backfiring because of his dealings with the dark web and the fact he couldn’t bind with Reynard. And the hits just kept coming. For Reynard, he felt he finally found someone he could fully be himself with. But Misha was hiding too many secrets. And because of it, when their clutch was trying to thrive and grow, they were taken by evil men who were hurting Reynard and trying to hurt the babies. And actually did one of them. Thankfully, the Drake family pulled together to right the wrongs that were committed and set things right. And the love finally seemed to grow and blossom from everywhere. But will it last?
I really did. I had a problem with Misha right off the bat. Not necessarily that he was a bad guy, per se. But because of things he was doing were bad. And because of it, people were going to suffer. Now, on the other hand, Misha didn’t try to do anything to innocent people. The people he dealt with weren’t exactly boy scouts. But I hated that he was using Reynard. I hated it. Because Reynard was a very sensitive soul. Truly. He was a recluse for a reason. There were parts to him that made him feel like a freak. And for me, Misha was exploiting it. Thankfully, it was turning into something else, and they were falling in love. Especially when they knew they could be themselves with each other in ways they could with no one else. But because of the initial chapters of this book. I had a really hard time with him. He redeemed himself for me with Reynard later on as he did all he could to reassure Reynard he was everything he and their clutch needed. But it still came with a price. Thankfully again, things have a way of working out, but it’s a hard story.
I loved how the ending came about. It made the whole thing worth it for me. When you meet Pavel, if you haven’t already, you will see why. He makes everything perfect.
