Sometimes all a boy needs is his Daddy.
Davis’s life has been one struggle after another, leaving him nervous and unsure. On the brink of complete poverty, he’s desperate enough to accept a job at a biker bar, even though it terrifies him. It’s not like he has a choice when the hot, older owner is the only one willing to give him a chance.
Sarge has a full life. He’s made his dream of owning a successful bar come true. He has good friends and valuable employees. If he gets a little lonely, it’s easier to just scratch the itch than to put his heart back on the line. At least it was until Davis, constantly looking to him for reassurance, melts through his defenses with his big blue eyes.
When Davis reveals his curiosity about Daddies, will Sarge give into the desire to claim Davis as his boy?
REVIEW:
You know, Daddy tropes are not my favorite. Not that I don’t love a silver fox, but for the most part there are other tropes I like better. But of course, I love these two authors and couldn’t resist reading their take on a daddy/boy relationship and I’m glad I did. Davis quickly became so endearing to me and I absolutely cried and delighted over him so much.
Davis has had a rough life lately. It’s been one thing after another and the sweet young man is at the end of his rope. He goes to the bar he applied at for an interview, scared to death, because his clothes aren’t good enough and he’s so hungry. And he’s scared he won’t be able to cut what it takes to work here. As soon as he sees Sarge, he almost swallows his tongue, and a conversation of friend of his brought up, came to the forefront in his mind. But he had to be careful, because he didn’t want to think that of his maybe new boss. Sarge takes one look at Davis and doesn’t think he can take the rough and tumble of the bar, but something in Davis is pulling at everything in him to care for this young man and show him it’s going to be ok. So he hires him. And starts to eventually notice a change. It takes a bit and some stern talking to but Davis is blossoming. Until Sarge brings him home to live with him to get him out of his dangerous apartment building. Davis was thinking something else and now things seem too complicated and Sarge can’t figure out what went wrong. Now he’s got to fix what he’s messed up, before he loses the chance at the boy of his dreams.
I don’t even know where to begin with Davis. I love Sarge and Law and all of them. (Which reminds me…..Law & Billy….another book???????? *hint hint*) But there’s something about Davis. His sweet, innocent nature, his timid, shy personality, and the fire behind the sad, soft eyes. He’s just one of those sweet young men you want to wrap up and hug the stuffing out of for the rest of your life and protect him against everyone else. And I love that Sarge sees him. Sees him from the beginning. He knew something was up with Davis. Knew there was a story there. But he also knew not to pressure Davis for fear he would bolt. But what I loved even more, is that Billy, another employee, took Davis under his wing and wouldn’t take no for an answer on anything. He would make things seem like something off hand to save Davis’s dignity and pride, but helped him become the blossoming young man who was starting to brim with confidence. And Sarge helped too. Just by being the rock he is. Heck, the whole crew had Davis’s back, in more ways than one. There’s just something so special about him, that everyone took him under his wing. Even cranky quiet Law. And that was shocking in itself.
So yeah, this book is a special one. Not because it’s just a daddy/boy thing. Because it’s a Davis thing. Because everyone took the time to see under the shy, timid young man to see one that wanted a chance at life. And they all wanted to help him find his dream. In any way they could. And considering the curmudgeonly group….that was saying a lot.
