One kiss can change everything.
So far, Detective David Gallagher has managed to keep his private life . . . well, private. There has always been some gossip about his sexual orientation, but it’s nothing the even-tempered cop couldn’t handle. All that changes in a flash when a new fire inspector joins his task force. With a few unfortunate remarks, the openly gay Travis Sommer outs David in a bar filled with their colleagues. Suddenly David can’t even get coffee without people whispering. To make matters worse, the two men have to work together for months to bring down a dangerous arsonist.
Finally, the case is closed. It’s New Year’s Eve—perfect time for a new start, but David’s anger burns as hot as ever. Rumors have reached his family, and after a tough day, David is ready to blow off some steam. But all bets are off when he runs into the one man who seems determined to cause havoc in David’s life.
There is just something about Travis Sommer that makes it hard to stay away, and David has to decide if he wants to hold on to his anger or give the new year a chance.

REVIEW:
Not a bad little story. I wanted to shake the MCs and smack a few people in it but overall it’s a pretty good little story.
David has been gay and known he’s gay for a long time, but for his reasons he’s kept it to himself and stayed in the closet. When he goes to a party after work, some bigot he worked with was making comments and a gay firefighter, Travis, outs him. And doesn’t mean to. He assumed everyone already knew. And from there it ends up in a bar brawl and everyone making comments about David that has left him feeling shattered. His coworkers are constantly talking about him and his mom wants nothing to do with him now. At least he has his sister. But as mad as David is with Travis, there’s still a connection, a chemistry between them. But until David can let everything go and accept who he truly is, nothing can ever come between them. And as hard as he’s fighting, it may never happen.
It’s a hard thing coming out when you’re not sure of the reception you’re going to get. When you’re forced out, it’s worse. Because then there’s always at least one in the crowd that is a homophobe or a bigot that has to make some kind of comment and starts something. So I understood David’s anger against Travis, to a point. When he realized Travis didn’t do it intentionally, he could have started to let things go. But he refused to. Instead, he held on to all that anger and hurt and everything else and caused a bigger friction between them. And gave more fodder for everyone to throw at him. So it was a hard story, but one that could have not been as escalated if people would have talked and been true. Even if they didn’t shout it to the world, he could have been honest with at least Travis. And they could have moved on faster.
But to each their own. Everyone has to deal with it all in their timeframe, and no one has the right to force them otherwise. Or to force them to deal with the backlash in a hurry.
