A Forbidden Desires Spin-Off Story.
Grimbold Drake, influential patriarch of the Drake family, revels in his solitary life of order—a life which is thrown into chaos when his son pays him an unexpected visit, bringing with him a broken but gorgeous young man more than a millennium Grimbold’s junior. A man Grimbold instantly finds himself yearning to fix, to protect, and to claim.
Meek, subservient, and eager to please, Wally Brand doesn’t doubt the tales he’s been told of the cruel and deceitful Amethyst clan, so when he’s forcibly taken from his home and entrusted to Grimbold Drake—the most powerful Amethyst dragon of all—he knows he won’t be long for this world. Only there’s a gleam in Grimbold’s eyes when he looks Wally’s way and a tenderness to his touch that Wally can’t understand.
All he knows is one thing: whether Grimbold means him harm or not, if he can be good to his dragon captor, maybe, just maybe, he’ll get out of this mess alive.
Swallow is a 30,000 word steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set following the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains a broken young man who badly needs love, a curmudgeonly dragon with a heart of gold, new nicknames, familiar faces, and the sweetest dog known to dragonkind. For maximum enjoyment, Swallow is best read as a companion piece to the Forbidden Desires series.
REVIEW:
When I realized the original series was over, I was a little upset. Because one, I loved the series. And two, there were more dragons who needed their story, I felt. Some things that needed to be finished that were up in the air. Sebastian, Everard and all them had their mates and their happiness. Except for Hugh. So when I heard of this spin-off series, I wanted it so bad. I was actually hoping this was going to be Hugh’s story and was really surprised when I saw it was their father, Grimbold’s, story. And I couldn’t be happier.
When I first met Grimbold in the original series, I was not happy with him. At all. He is a head, a council member, and very old in his thinking. He also chose to ignore things going on around him. I wasn’t real thrilled in how he treated his son’s mates as well. Because breeding isn’t important. It should be about love. So when Grimbold took Swallow (Walter) under his wing, I was glad to see he felt what he should have all along. A horror and an overwhelming guilt at what his ignorance and high handed thinking did. The fact that he let this go on under his nose and did nothing, was almost unforgivable in my opinion. And because of what Walter was going through, it made Grimbold finally see how wrong he was all along. Walter wasn’t a disgrace because he wasn’t the ‘perfect’ pedigree. He was still a dragon, whether he had the form or not. He was still special because he had a gift as well. And even if he didn’t have a gift, he was still special, because he was made and was a gift to the world from whatever Fates or gods had created him. But because of the antiquated laws and crap, Walter suffered greatly. So greatly. And he never deserved it. None of them did. They should have all been cherished just because they were born.
So yeah, I was happy that Grimbold got to see the consequences of his actions. But I was also happy that he could see, it wasn’t too late to change. It wasn’t too late to help this young man who was in his care and do right by him. It wasn’t too late to mate the young man his dragon claimed right off the bat. I hate with a passion what Walter had to go through in order to get his happy ending. Because even his happy ending still bore scars of a bad past. It will never be easy for Walter. There will probably always be that small seed of doubt in his mind, no matter how much Grimbold convinces him otherwise. But finally, there’s a change that needed to happen so long ago. And it hurt to see that it had to come at the expense of others. But now things were finally moving in a way that was positive and for the better. All because of a beautiful little omega.
