Beauty may be skin deep, but sometimes staying young and beautiful is pure hell.
They say there’s no rest for the wicked, but Garen and Luke are eagerly anticipating a brief vacation on the South Island, doing nothing more taxing than tramping, skiing and snowboarding.
However, when Garen meets up with an old friend—a ranger in the nearby national park—he not only finds that several trampers have gone missing there but also that his friend has a new boyfriend, Harper.
Although on vacation, they visit the one tramper who was found alive. Luke detects an aura of evil that is still preying on the man. While he performs a ritual cleansing to free the man of the demonic power’s lingering touch, Garen goes into the forest.
When he’s attacked by an unseen entity, Garen manages to escape. He returns with Luke to locate a body so that they can identify what is lurking in the forest’s depths.
Although Garen suspects that his friend’s new boyfriend is possessed by the demon they seek, Luke is less convinced. When the Dearg Due strikes, she aims for Garen’s heart, and Luke and Garen must battle to defeat the undying Red Thirst.
Reader advisory: This book contains some minor corpse description, references to abusive childhood and relationships, bullying, self-harm and suicide.
REVIEW:
This has been a really interesting series.. You guys know I love the paranormal and it’s been interesting to see the different historical demons and beasts and the history involving them. But it’s just good writing too. It’s different and keeps you interested. I love the main characters and the new ones that crop up. And even in the face of evil, there’s still love and hope. It’s a good series so far.
Garen has surprised Luke with a much needed vacation. It’s such a surprise, Luke has no clue to where they are even going. He roughly has an idea, but not the extent in which Garen went for him. They were just really starting to enjoy their vacation though, when Garen’s friend they met there, informed Garen of bad news. Some of the hikers were going missing. And the one that had been found was in a bad way. After visiting the injured hiker, Luke had a rough idea what they were dealing with but not fully. It wasn’t until Garen went into the forest with another guide and some things happened that they both got a full sense of who it was and why. And once they determined they had the wrong person at first and found a right one, Garen was caught in a trap with his friend and their lives on the line. And Luke has to save them quickly from a death worse than death. And with the help of 2 new friends.
Poor Luke and Garen. After all they’ve been through, was it too much to ask to get a vacation and a break lol? Obviously it was. Unfortunately, evil never goes away. It’s always somewhere lurking. And sometimes in the most innocent seeming of people. But some people just throw off a vibe that something isn’t quite right. Which makes it hard to determine if they are an evil sort or if something is weighing on them. Fortunately for Luke and Garen, in their lines of work, they knew what to do. And Luke always follow his gut when it comes to things. And thank goodness for that. But what I love, is in the face of all the evil and danger, they’re love never faltered. It grew stronger and even more, a love that was shy to blossom, came out in full bloom. It’s unfortunate but amazing as well the amount of love that can come out in the sense of danger.
It’s a good series, like I said. With the way this one ended, I’m anxious to see how the next one is going to be, if there is another. There has to be or I may be really upset. Lol. Too many things were left open in this one.
