The seventh book in the Hedonist series, this novel can be enjoyed as a standalone but is better read with the rest of the series.
It’s been five years since Flynn returned to New York and adopted his son, Cooper. In that time, not once has he run into his sexy biker ex-boyfriend. And then, at a party, Flynn and Matteo’s eyes meet, and in that moment Flynn realizes they haven’t lost the intense connection they’ve always had between them. But the issues in Matteo’s life that drove Flynn away seven years ago are still present, and Flynn needs to guard his son’s heart as well as his own.
Matteo is shocked to realize the love of his life has been living nearby for such a long time. He wants to wrap up Flynn and his little boy in his arms and never let them go. Except Matteo’s grandmother still doesn’t know he’s gay. How can he disappoint the woman who has always been there for him?
Being with Flynn again and getting to know his little boy have shown Matteo what he’s missing in his life, and this time he can’t blame Flynn for wanting more from him. In the end, Matteo must choose between familial responsibility and his own happiness.
REVIEW:
If you have been following this series, we know that the Hedonist is a Motorcycle Club whose different members are the main characters in this book series. Contrary to what people might conceive about a Motorcycle Club, that is not the Hedonist. They are a club who has legitimate businesses around the city. They follow the law, although sometimes when they are being bullied or their reputation and members are intimidated they have to do something about it, sometimes drastically in order to stop it.
Matteo is second in command in the officers’ ranking in the club. He is quiet and has devoted whatever free time he has taking care of his old grandmother. This is also the reason why he lost Flynn seven years ago, who he loves and considers “the love of his life.” Matteo wasn’t ready to come out, maybe he’ll never be able to do it as long as his grandmother is alive. He doesn’t want to disappoint her as she has always been there for him. So, their relationship had to be a secret. And it hurt when it ended. I guess you really can’t blame the other person when he thinks he’ll always only be the second most important person in his lover’s life.
But seeing each other could be their second chance, right? It’s like the number of years being separated never happened. They realize that their feelings toward each other has intensified but they have learned a lot since then. Maybe this time it will be different.
The reason why every book in this series has been hard to put down when I read them is because they tap into your desires or wishes, the ones from the heart. They are the same things people like you and me dream of, being with the person we love, having a family, with children and living life openly. This installment talks of second chances, soul mates and being truly accepting of who you are! Every time a new book comes out from this series, I am excited to know which character will have his story told so I am so looking forward to the next one Ms. Rebecca James!
