Horror author Curtis Macintyre has recently rented an apartment in an historical building in San Francisco. But the apartment comes with more than just old charm. It also comes with the spirit of Aaron Carmichael, a man murdered five years before.
After Curtis visits a medium, Aaron’s spirit comes to him for help in finding peace since he’s lost between two worlds, the living and the afterlife. When Curtis decides to visit Aaron’s boyfriend, Robbie Henley, a beautiful hairdresser, Aaron comes along … inside Curtis.
Now with Robbie’s help, it’s up to Curtis to find out what happened to Aaron so he can finally have peace. And maybe, together, Curtis and Robbie can find their own happily ever after.
REVIEW:
I don’t necessarily believe in ghosts. I believe a lot differently, but I’ve always wondered about the paranormal world and what is truly real and what isn’t. If it’s the way I believe things are or if it’s truly something else. Either way, I can’t imagine what I would feel like if a ghost appeared wanting to be free of the world he’s trapped in. Not remembering anything of what happened to him or anything of the sort. And just wanting to be laid to rest finally, and at peace.
But it’s hard on those left behind or for the one who’s trying to find out the info to help the spirit pass over. So I felt for both Curtis, who sees Aaron and is now dealing with Aaron in ways that are a bit uncomfortable, or Robbie, who was the love of Aaron’s life. But there’s more to it than that. Because of the way Aaron was treated for being gay, secrets were hidden in his family. And it’s now up to Curtis to find out how far this really went. And when Aaron finally remembers what happens, it’s devastating. And it’s even more devastating, because after finally getting to see Robbie again, Aaron knows he’s going to have to leave. But will Curtis and Robbie continue on, when all that brought them together was Aaron, or will they truly get to know them as each other should and see if there is anything there?
No matter how you look at this, it’s a tough situation. Everyone is dealing with loss, even after 5 years. It’s hard enough when you lose someone, but when the killer is never found, you can’t get the justice you need to, to move on. So all parties involved have a lot to deal with. And for Curtis, he’s the outsider looking in, trying to set someone free and finally put everything to rest. I’m glad he was able to be there for Robbie during it all. I hate what happens when they find out who did it, but was glad Curtis could be there for those who were involved as victims. And even though it may be a bit weird that Curtis is dating Robbie, after the whole Aaron thing, at least they are moving forward and trying to find happiness in a life that’s been full of tragedy. It’s tough in some senses to read. Obviously. But it’s a good little murder mystery.
