Sleeping with the enemy never felt so good.
When Paul Davenport comes face to face with the man he caught in bed with his boyfriend years before, it’s hate at first sight. Well, second sight. Indy should be apologizing, not flirting. Except the gorgeous barman is completely oblivious to their paths ever having crossed before.
Despite his feelings, Paul’s powerless to resist the full-on charm offensive that follows. It’s fine though. It’s just sex. No emotions. No getting to know each other. Just a bout of temporary insanity that’s sure to run its course once the simmering passion starts to wear off.
Only what if it’s not? Indy’s nothing like the man Paul expected him to be from his past actions. What if they’re perfect for each other and Paul’s just too stubborn to see it? Forging a relationship with him would require an emotional U-turn Paul might not be capable of making.
There’s a thin line between love and hate, and Paul’s about to discover just how thin it really is. He can’t possibly be falling for the man that ruined his life. Can he?
Warning: This book contains hate sex—sort of, lots of banter, and a pink elephant. No, really it does. Actually, two elephants.
Please note: Although this book is in the Temporary series, it occurs during the same timeline as A Temporary Situation. Therefore both books can be read as standalones and in any order.
REVIEW:
I had a hard time with this book at first, I guess because I’ve been in Paul’s shoes and been cheated on. Thankfully, I never knew who, but I had to admit I felt Paul’s anger in this story so much. I could believe the audacity of Indy. Even after Indy found out the truth. But the more I got to reading this book, I had to realize there are three sides to every story. The truth was there, and Paul had to let go to find it out.
When Paul saw Indy for the first time after several years, the anger was still there from finding him in bed with his then boyfriend. And the fact that Indy didn’t know who he was and kept flirting was making Paul angrier. He finally, after a few times in the bar, told Indy the truth and Indy was apologetic. Or so Paul thought until the man started flirting again. Then the mention of hate sex came up in a conversation and Paul thought he could get on board with that. I mean, Indy was hot, right? But one night turned into two and then more. Indy was trying to get past that wall, where at times he saw a glimpse of the real Paul, but the shutters would crash down and it was getting too much. Indy wanted Paul for real, and if he couldn’t get past the past, then they’d never have a hope for the future. But when Paul realized he was about to really lose Indy, and seeing someone else’s relationship being tanked as well, it made him realize what he was doing and how he really felt. And now he has to fix it or lose Indy for good. If he’s not too late already.
Like I said, at first I had a really hard time with this. I mean dating the enemy, or screwing him anyway. But then I had to think about it. Long before Paul, but still. It wasn’t Indy’s fault about what happened. He was a victim of being used and lied to just like Paul was. And it really wasn’t fair for Paul to place the full blame on him. Yes, Indy could have maybe looked into it to be sure but in the heat of the moment, he didn’t. And he even admits his part in it. But most of the blame should have rested solely on his ex’s shoulders. It was his fault. And seeing Indy, as hurtful as it was, Paul realized eventually, Indy actually saved him from the trouble down the road. Because the more he thought, the more he had a feeling this wasn’t his ex’s first or last time cheating. But what I hate the most is that it took something drastic for Paul to wake up and see what was in front of him. When you’re in the heat of it all, it’s hard to get a true clear picture. No matter how good sex may be for some, it often complicates things, especially if you are doing it for revenge or hate. And not getting the whole truth about everything first.
Thankfully, they both pulled their heads out of their butts and really talked. Like really talked. And got it all out. It was a shame they had to go through some of what they had to, but unfortunately, some of us can be really hardheaded about things and it makes it worse. Thankfully, in this one, they figured it out..
