REVIEW:
I do want to tell you, in case you missed, when the author changed publishers, some places aren’t listing this as a part of a series. It actually is. It is the 3rd in the series. Now, at the time I didn’t realize it myself until I did some looking and digging to make sure I had things right. You can read this one separately. But to get some of the background maybe, I would read the first two. Plus, if they are as good as this one, yeah, I will definitely be going back to read them.
I love paranormal stories and this one was quite different and I loved it. It was a great story!
Avery used to ghostwalk. That means he had to ‘die’ and help others cross over who were stuck. But every ghostwalker needs an anchor. Needs someone to ground them when they come back, care for them in the aftermath and make sure they’re ok. Avery’s anchor used to be his husband Luke, but when he lost his husband to cancer, he vowed to never ghostwalk again. But what he didn’t count on, was that his teaching and training classes would attract a young man named Jameson, who was in love from the start. But they seemed to get off on the wrong foot every time because in Jameson’s haste to get to know Avery, his mouth filter was off. And he upset Avery quite often. But Avery also knew after 4 years, he was still a bit sensitive and was starting to feel a bit different about things. Jameson was bringing him back to life. And it was rocking Avery’s world. And not necessarily in a good way. When asked to ghostwalk to find someone, he did it but the aftereffects through him off so bad he couldn’t see straight. And he knew something was going to have to change. Jameson just hoped it was for the good and not bad.
When you lose the love of you life, it puts you in a place you never think you will recover from. It’s not that you necessarily want to be that way, but grief comes in all different time frames and some take longer to get over. But what I loved from the get go, even though he goofed with his wording, was that Jameson’s focus was completely on Avery and how he felt. He was trying to hurt the man. He genuinely cared and wanted to get to know him and make sure he was alright. But Avery being still brittle and Jameson’s bad wording often got them off on the wrong foot. But Jameson never gave up. Even if all he could ever have Avery for was a friend, he would never give up. He would do all he could to care for the man in any way he could. And for that, Jameson proved he was everything Avery ever would need. That doesn’t mean things would be easy. And I love that fact that Jameson knew that and he also knew he would never take Luke’s place in Avery’s life. He accepted that from the beginning and although there was a bit of jealousy, it was his own hangup. He would never take that away from Avery. Ever. And it would be stupid to try because he knew Avery’s relationship was what made the man who he is today.
I love this story. I love Jameson. My heart broke so often in this story for Avery, but because of Jameson everything was much better. At least eventually. It will always have it’s ups and downs, but the important part is to constantly surround yourself in love and affection and never give up. No matter how hard you want to. You never know what a difference you may make in someone’s life.
