REVIEW:

Shaw is a very unique wombat shifter.  He’s on the run from a terrible beta of his home wisdom in Australia who wants to force him to be his mate.  By luck, he’s in the territory of a gargoyle elder that happens to be home to his fated mate – a cougar shifter named Virgil.  But Shaw doesn’t really know about mates.  The myths of his wisdom in Australia do not include fated mates, so he’s skeptical.  He knows he really wants Virgil but he doesn’t know why exactly.  But he’s afraid that his wisdom beta will come after him and possibly hurt Virgil so he tried to run.  Of course Virgil won’t accept that 🙂

Virgil manages to catch up to Shaw and takes him to the ranch where he’s welcomed with open arms.  Shaw is surprised by all that learns, all the new kinds of paranormals he meets as well as the humans who work the ranch.  He realizes THIS is what he wants – to be part of a family that has been created at this ranch.  After mating, you know that Shaw’s wisdom can’t leave well enough and tried to get him back.  To quote Pretty Woman, “Big mistake.  HUGE!” 😉  And the cavalry shows up in the form of Jared and Carson!!

YEA!  Jared and Carson.  Any book with these two is an automatic 4 hearts from me.  This series is intertwined with several others and Jared, former hitman, and Carson, chief enforcer for the Stone Ridge shifter pack, are fated mates that are among the most entertaining of the characters in these books.  I absolutely love them and seeing them in this story being their usual bodacious selves is always fun.  Shaw is such a fun character and I hope that we get to see him more.  Wombats are among my FAVORITE animals. At the Australia House at Brookfield Zoo just outside Chicago, there is a lifesize sculpture of a Hairy-nosed Wombat at the point where you can donate to animal conversation in Australia.  Given all the terrible fires and damage, I hope people will continue to support their efforts to save the unique animals there as well.  Just a delightful story from Charlie in her fabulous paranormal world 🙂  Recommended particularly for fans of her Paranormal series.
