I have thoroughly enjoyed each of these books. I loved getting to know Goose and Patrick, as they’ve went ghost hunting and went through things in their lives that were good and very bad. The journeys in which they’ve discovered they were different, and because of that the connections they’ve made and the people they’ve helped along the way. And not just people, ghosts.
You really need to read the other books to get a grasp of what all is going on. On how these two have met and how things have progressed. Snowed In is first and then Ghost Writer before this one. It’s definitely one heck of a journey, starting with a reenactment and ending in this story, maybe for now, with Goose and Patrick finally getting married after a long hard year. In this one, we go back a bit again, as Goose and Patrick are coming across ghosts still. And in grief that they can’t seem to find Jefferson and Daniel again. But two people they’ve come across in this journey, are just like Jefferson and Daniel to them. And as they are doing all they can to reunite these two and have them come back, Jefferson and Daniel are giving them clues and access to other ghosts who need their help finding their loves ones to finally cross over together with. But it’s not an easy road for either Goose or Patrick. While they are both trying to recover from the aftereffects of what Goose’s ex did, it’s in these moments the ghosts are coming to them. And also they are realizing that maybe it’s time to find a way to help themselves as well as these who are lost. But as their wedding day draws closer, will everything they’ve worked so hard for finally fall into place or have they gotten their hopes up for nothing?
I really, really have enjoyed Goose and Patrick. Because of their love for each other and the things they’ve been through themselves, they’ve broaden their love for people and for those who are different. They don’t judge, they accept. They hold on to the broken and those who are looking to find themselves. And in doing so, they’ve created a bigger family. Including the ghosts and those who are connected to them. And the group is all encompassing. It includes a large spectrum from the lgbt rainbow and for that I love them even more. Because they realize that they may not be the ones to help fully, but they put these people in touch with those who can. I also love the fact that a lot of these that they are trying to help have been in the military or families from members lost in the military. It’s a very real subject that is happening every day in this world. From remnants of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” era, all the way back to where you could be shot or hung or worse for being gay or heaven forbid, trans. It touches on PTSD a lot and the effects from it. And not just from military, but from those who have been through severe tragedies. I love that these authors don’t hold back and they show that everyone may be different, but we all need love and maybe a little help.
There are a lot of lessons in this book. In all these books. There’s a lot of fun and sexy times too, but more important, there’s a sense of family and love. Of support and so much more. I know that not a lot of people may know these authors, but I encourage you to give them a shot. You may not give a rating I did, but they’re worth reading. It’s historical, fun and paranormal to boot. I hope to see more of this couple in the future. Even if it’s only a snippet.
