A low-caste widower, Lucien is betrothed to his clan’s war leader. The only way he can delay the arranged marriage long enough to affect his escape is to accept Aquilon’s commission and join his quest.
Watching the enchanting spell weaver interact with the fiber of his soul is pure torment for Aquilon. Threads of the enemy’s deception must be severed if they are to have any hope of preventing war and saving their people.
REVIEW:
If you haven’t read any of A.Nybo’s books, you really should. Yet again, the author has captivated me with characters wove into a story that I couldn’t put down. I love the way the stories come together. The way the plot thickens and you aren’t quite sure how things are going to turn out. Because there are lots of twists and turns to it. It’s another story by the author that I love.
Aquilon was out doing things when he comes back to his territory to find everyone dead. He finds out quickly what happened when a mindseer not quite gone, shows him all. Now Aquilon has to find this evil and end it. But in order to do so, he must protect his own soul and mindseer and that of his friend who rides with him. In order to rid the territories of the evil, he needs the help of a weaver that can weave the thread he has put his soul into. But Lucien is having problems of his own. He agrees to do the bags, but more because he feels he has no choice. Words of a nomad keep him worried. Especially as he and Aquilon draw closer each day. And with all that is hanging over their heads, it’s enough to make them keep their distance. But they can’t. But the evil is spreading causing more turmoil and that has to take precedence. Because if they don’t rid this evil, it will cause wars to unfold everywhere and for many to die.
I don’t envy Lucien in this book. He just can’t catch a break it seems. Being a widower, he is sought after to wed again, but his heart isn’t in it. And who can blame him, when those of his clan that want him are less than desirable by any means. I’d want to smack them all too. These overbearing pompouses who think they can do whatever they want to whoever they want just because they are a warrior or some such crap. But it doesn’t help that Lucien has a mind of his own as well and he speaks it quite often. Which gets him in even more trouble. But when Aquilon shows up, it’s like he can’t win. He’s in trouble by everyone it seems and now in over his head as words haunt him and his attraction to Aquilon is going to be more trouble that may be worth. If I were him, I’d have tried to find a way to run myself. Good gracious. But he knows he has to do what he’s doing if for no other reason, then the fact it is for the greater good. He knows it’s important that he does what is needed. It doesn’t always make life easier, especially when the evil seems to permeate everything around them. But the territories need a savior and he has to do what he can to help.
It’s a great story. Good vs. evil. I love these kind of stories. It gives you that kind of hope that good always prevails. Gives you hope that maybe in real life, maybe the same could be said. It’s not an easy thing, but it’s good. There are moments where you want to smack someone or shake them. Moments where you are biting your nails hoping the heroes make it through. And that’s when you know you’ve read a good book.
